'Vote-Shaming': An Effective Leftist Strategy
American Thinker ^

Posted on 01/30/2016 8:18:10 AM PST by Thapsus

FYI: BACKGROUND ON "VOTER-SHAMING"/"VOTER REPORT CARDS"

From the American Thinker: 'Vote-Shaming': An Effective Leftist Strategy

http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2014/10/voteshaming_an_effective_leftist_strategy.html

"While campaigns nationwide are hysterically ramping up their 'get out the vote' (GOTV) efforts, Democrats are banking on a strategy that worked for them in 2012, hoping it will give them an edge and allow them to eke out some victories." [....] "This kind of tactic could never work on conservative, independent, Republican, or Libertarian voters. Our DNA does not include the sheeple gene, and we are just not cut from the groupthink cloth. "

From Rush Limbaugh: New Democrat Tactic: "Voter Shaming"

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2014/10/29/new_democrat_tactic_voter_shaming

"...they've got Democrat Party election officials sending them letters telling them they're being watched and telling them that they know whether these people have voted or not and that they will know whether they vote this time or not and that their neighbors will know whether they've voted or not, and they will know whether the neighbors know. So I'm not sure how this is gonna play out. But once again, it's another sign of desperation on the Democrat Party side about the election and vote turnout and all of these things that are tied into it."

From the Wall Street Journal:Democrats "Shame" Voters With Mailers

http://www.wsj.com/articles/democrats-shame-voters-with-mailers-1414803485

"Democratic Party postcards and letters sent to more than 800,000 New Yorkers this week gave them grades based on how often they had voted and told them their voting records in 2014 would be watched. "

From a Slate article on the MoveOn.org tactic: The "Voter Report Card" MoveOn Hopes Will Shame Slackers

http://www.slate.com/blogs/victory_lab/2012/10/31/moveon_can_its_voter_report_card_shame_slackers_into_turning_out.html

"MoveOn is mailing 12 million registrants in battleground states a 'Voter Report Card' scoring their participation in their past five elections and comparing it to the neighborhood average..."

Voters that can think for themselves vote the way THEY WANT. Non-RATS, of course.

“’Vote-Shaming’: An Effective Leftist Strategy”

So why is the great “Consistent Conservative” now using them?

Cruz is reportedly using this tactic. If so, Cruz is going off the rails. He’s losing me more and more all the time.

It probably is effective in increasing turnout. Whether those people are going to caucus or vote for the campaign that shamed them is doubtful.

If I received one of their voter shame mail pieces, I would be furious - I might vote, but not for the candidate who sent it to me.

I can see how such a tactic could and probably would be effective with liberals - after all, the opinion by others overrules the opinion of themselves. It is a bit of a hallmark.

And I could see how such a tactic could be effective in an urban setting - especially states that have made it easy for even the laziest of voters to vote.

But I can see such a tactic being used towards ‘Republican’ voters backfiring on a massive scale. Especially for an ‘anti-establishment’ candidate.

Someone who is against the Washington establishment is probably the most likely to be annoyed by such a mailing. They probably don’t want to know how often a neighbor votes, nor do they want shoved in their face exactly how much detailed information is out there on them.

Worse, those inclined towards accepting such letters (especially after the barrage of calls and mailings that many Iowans experience each presidential cycle) are most likely to vote for establishment candidates. You’re encouraging those most likely to follow the herd to act like the herd.

At the end of the day, I don’t see any possible gain for the Cruz campaign from these mailings, and most likely it will be a detriment.

Sounds like Cruz is a democrat running on a Republican ticket since he's using the same tactics...wouldn't you say?

How hideously stupid, course without someone’s coat tails to ride on, he really can't do anything himself...

We are used to Me Too Teddy following Trump, but now he’s using Obama tactics?

There have been articles bragging about the Cruz data gathering operation, now we see how it’s being used.

Slimy.

This was my point on the epic thread last night.

Why would anyone think this would work with Midwest Republicans?

This was a serious misstep, and social media is voicing it's anger and revulsion at the tactic.

I posted on another thread how amazing it is to see this intimidation tactic being defended.

Here is the link to the article on the “violations”. The claim is that Cruzs campaign was contacted and the campaign did confirm sending out the “ voting violations”.

This is right out of the Democrat handbook, tactics obuma used and tactics that Democrats use to shame voters for a big turn out...

Never thought I would see a Republican candidate use it, wow how low can any ‘politician’ ‘insider’ go?

Yeah. I was confused. Hubs and I *just* read an article about Cruz doing this.

Well, you just answered my next question.

I was thinking that this would be something a competing campaign would do to make Cruz look bad... but nope.

Because nothing inspires voter loyalty like a shaming letter. LOL!
