"Rubio’s summer of ’90: An arrest, then newfound purpose"
Washington Post ^ | 1/21/2016 | Manuel Roig-Franzia and Scott Higham

Marco Rubio's first year of college at a small school in Missouri ended badly. His grades were awful. A neck injury dashed any hopes of achieving greatness on the football field. He was hurting for money.

He resolved to go back to Florida and get his life on a path to success. Instead the 18-year-old added to his troubles after returning to Miami for summer break: He was arrested one night in May 1990 for being in a crime-plagued public park after closing time, according to police records and an interview with a friend who was cited with Rubio that night.

The previously unreported misdemeanor, which eventually was dismissed, tugged Rubio into the criminal-justice system just one year after the conviction of his brother-in-law in a major drug-trafficking case had exacted a devastating toll on his family

--

Despite the high-priced real estate nearby, the park had become a notorious locale in the late 1980s and early 90s, a haven for drug dealers, prostitutes and gang members. A local homeowners association's newsletter documented the complaints of neighbors: "Gang warfare, gunfire, prostitution (straight and gay), drug dealing and muggings."

Some unspoken questions here. For instance:

Why was Rubio hanging out in a "crime-plagued park" notorious for "gang warfare, gunfire, prostitution (straight and gay), drug dealing and muggings." ?

And why bring up his brother-in-law ?

Or is just a big nothing ?

“Or is just a big nothing ? “

MMM, MMM, let me think....

Is is bigger than an unwanted haircut?

Is it smaller than a fake affair with a lobbyist?

How does it compare to the sexual harrassment and abuse of an White House intern?

To lying under oath?

To the mishandling of top secret info?

To the murder of an ambassador?

HMMM. HMMM.

I think it’s nothing, now that I think about it.

I’ve been hassled by cops for being in parks “after closing”.

The last time I was 49!!!

I gave them as much crap for harassing me as I dare.

What a waste of resources.

raising a ruckus for a meaningless misdemeanor, really?

Is this how petty America has become?

If the charge was “dismissed” as the story states then the incident is irrelevant.

Mentioning Rubio’s non-crime is a device to drag in his brother-in-law's scandal and infer guilt by association.

What a crock.

First off, not a Rubio fan (far from it actually)

But... as a youth I worked a second shift job and often a bunch of us “nighters” would crash the local park to play basketball while it was closed. We were good kids for the most part, even one of us was a policeman’s son. We just kept odd hours compared to most the rest of the world. Youth often don’t have the choice of the prime time work shifts.

You know, every single member of Yeb Boosh’s family have much more serious criminal records, and Yeb himself was a lush and pothead in college. And not a peep about that.

Instead, we hear about his closest rival’s curfew violation.

I absolutely HATE the nomenklatura!

“Is this how petty America has become?”

It is how petty one of his rivals has become. Guess which one?

Unless there is more than I’ve read the evidence linking him to homo porn is extremely weak.....like almost non existent

I know that park from that era

The biggest crowd was kids just like him

I lived at 1610 Brickell in what was then called Brickell Place next to the Miami Vice building with the cube missing huhhhh

Wayne Madsen of the Wayne Madsen report had a rather strange story about this. Evidently the guy Rubio was arrested with later went on to become some sort of gay porn kingpin in Miami and still going at it today. Is it true? I dunno. Lots of weirdness out there.

I’m not a huge Rubio fan, but this hit piece is nothing but trash.
After the antics of Obama’s youth, this is pure nothingness.

What a rag WP is!
