Cruz: Trump 'Owes At Least $480 Million Right Now' [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | January 31, 2016 | Derek Draplin

Posted on 01/31/2016 7:27:11 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday accused front-runner Donald Trump of owing $480 million, noting "it could be billions."

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday" the Texas senator told host Chris Wallace that his own loans to run for senate were disclosed and also accused Trump of owing millions.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now, and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace.

"He knows this loan story is completely nonsense," Cruz said. "It's also the height of hutzpah - for someone who owes hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions of dollars, to attack Heidi and me because we put our life savings into running for senate. And the statement that the loans weren't disclosed, he knows is flat out false. The loans were disclosed."

Wallace then pressed Cruz to explain what Trump owes.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace. "And by the way with loans when Heidi and I take loans, we pay them back."

"Donald's declared bankruptcy four times, and so for him to sit there owing hundreds of millions or billions or who knows, and to criticize Heidi and me for putting our entire net worth into the campaign is astonishing," Cruz said. "It is not honest, especially because the loans were disclosed, they were publicly disclosed at the time."

Considering Cruz has never had a job in the private sector, I’m confident he doesn’t understand business. Maybe he should ask his wife.

Except Beck didn’t endorse Trump so he didn’t flip-flop.

Btw: Second consecutive “LOL!!” is when I know another Trump Nut is cracked.

"“And? That is typical of Cruz”"

You know you have crossed the threshold when everyone just assumes you're lying and moves on.

Like Hillary or Obama.

How can Cruz call himself a conservative and yet he doesn’t understand the first thing about capitalism? Maybe because he has been collecting government paychecks for his entire working life.

I guess, according to Cruz, the only good capitalists are the ones that give him low interest loans in return for political influence. The ones he forgot to report.

Now come the ad hominems, again. Why make it about me?? It’s NOT about me. Beck changed positions - no amount of ad hominem will change that fact.

Trump frequently has equity partners

Many from Texas and outside New York

He borrows from insurance companies too

Pension funds

The occasional municipal or state bond offering if it’s urban renewal

The last rare for him since he seems to like A plus commercial sites

“...this is peanuts...”

I literally laughed out loud when I read this headline. It would be like someone saying *I* owed $20! Silly. and I am so sorry to see how low Cruz personally (vs his campaign staff) will go.

I’d thought he had a future, that maybe this just wasn’t his year, that he needed more experience, but now I don’t think he has the character to be POTUS. He’s shown a serious pettiness and willingness to just ‘make stuff up.’ And, he’s shown he’s not half as smart as he was cracked up to be. Too sad, really.

That’s my biggest problem with Cruz. It’s obvious that to him, the constitution means what he wants it to mean, not what the writers intended.

He’s already trashed two items, you must be a citizen to be a Senator and now you must be a natural born citizen to be president. He’s advocating another, separation of church and state. What’s next?

I will say this.....any candidate running for higher office will have to take out some loans at some point and be beholden to some financial entity. Either a bank or Mr. Vinny, who may or may not wish certain “considerations” for the money fronting. It’s business, you know. It is an unmistakable fact that money is essential to run for office. How much a candidate owes and to whom is not quite as important to me as his word and “bond” on what he promises to do once elected.

I’m for Cruz, but this week since Beck came about has hurt Cruz and to be honest stating this makes him look more desperate.

Beck isn't someone I would willingly take around the country, either, but I've thought for a long time that Trump saying Cruz was owned by "banks" was hilarious with all of Trump's business dealings with the same banks. I'm just surprised Cruz waited so long to remark on Trump's hypocrisy.

Corporate debts still need to be repaid but they may be reduced.

Let me tell you about that "debts ... may be reduced" statement you blithely, but accurately, throw out in Trump's defense.

A dozen years or so ago the company I owned sold around $400 in services to a Connecticut company. After the service was provided, we billed them several times with no success. Finally about six months after doing the work, a fat envelope arrives from a Connecticut law firm. The contents advised me that the company had filed for bankruptcy and instructed me as to the court clerk's address, etc. if I wished to have my attorney file an appearance on my behalf.

I of course ignored it. The first couple of hours of discussions with my attorney would have set me back more than I could possibly have recovered.

Over the next three or four years I got another letter every for or five months from the Connecticut lawyer updating me on the status of the proceedings. Finally, after a dozen letters and the passage of almost five years, a check arrived discharging the debtor firm of it's obligations to me. The check was for nine dollars and change.

You keep insisting that because a man says something, anything, seen as positive that binds him. I am left to wonder why some person is wasting my minutes with such silliness... ergo: cracked.

The point is Trump said Cruz was a puppet for whoever loaned him money for his campaign.

Fixed it for you.

Heidi Cruz is Wall Street?
ROFL...if she was, there wouldn’t be any need for loans.

When is stating the truth whining? By the length of your post, it is you who is doing the whining.

Iowa isn’t critical for Cruz; there are 49 other States.

Do you have any understanding of how individual business entities are set up? If you were a buine owner, I suspect you would quickly loose all your personal assets in bankruptcy.

How many times have people criticized Trump for changing positions and used that to say he's a flip-flopper?

The hypocrisy here is stunning.

And so is you making it personal like it's about me when it isn't. Why do you do that?? You made it personal and used ad hominem. It's not the first time. When you have to resort to ad hominem you lose - and you lost again.
