Cruz hits The Donald on 'TrumpCare'
Politico ^ | February 1, 2016 | Dan Diamond with Joanne Kenen

Posted on 02/01/2016 7:36:04 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

CRUZ HITS TRUMP ON HEALTH CARE - AND HE'S KIND OF RIGHT - Locked in a close battle in Iowa, Ted Cruz is turning to health care in an attempt to separate himself from rival Donald Trump. A brutal ad airing in Iowa links "HillaryCare" and "ObamaCare" with "TrumpCare" - and uses Trump's own words against him.

"Everybody's got to be covered, this is an un-Republican thing for me to say," the ad quotes Trump saying on 60 Minutes last fall. "[And] the government's gonna pay for it."

Cruz pushed this message further on several Sunday shows. "A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for ObamaCare," Cruz claimed on Meet The Press. "Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have the identical position on health care. Which is they want to put the government in charge of you and your doctor. Now my views are polar opposites."

- TrumpCare remains vaguely defined. Trump called Cruz a "total liar" and declared, "I am so against Obamacare." But the thing is, Trump has repeatedly reiterated his commitment to some form of universal coverage - just as Cruz suggests. However, we still don't know any specifics of a Trump health plan, or how he'd pay for it.

Pressed again on Sunday, he still refused to offer details. "We'll work something out," Trump said on ABC's This Week. "Nobody knows health care better than Donald Trump."

I’ve read all of this and seen interviews. If you think these alliances are bough $2000 dollars at a time, you are being naive.

“I would imagine negotiating insurance for freeloaders at taxpayer’s expense is a little more difficult.”

That freeloader meme is making the circuit now. No one has claimed to have a bleeding heart for freeloaders. Also, a candidate cannot afford to announce policy based on the lowest common denominator.

I just clicked on a google heading that stated that Trump had come out for single payer. So I read it. He did not. He was saying that the government would pay for health care for people who could not afford health care.

Do you really think he would get to first base if, as he says, he thought that the people who could not afford health care should be allowed to die in the streets?

And speaking of freeloaders, who do you think is paying for the health care for the million plus legal immigrants entering the country per year, in addition to the unknown number of illegals entering alongside? Every immigrant entering the United States is either taking taxpayer money (most) or taking an American’s job. There are no exceptions, statistically speaking. Rich people don’t immigrate.

Cruz has never made payroll. He's a hired hand.

Ronald Reagan never made a payroll and was a hired hand all his life.

You do realize that Trump has given a grand total of 1.3 million over the last 20 years to over 350 candidates, while Teddy is receiving over 30 million from 3 families, in one cycle.

You DO understand the difference, right?

Lol, strong leadership???

Supporting crony ethanol subsidies, wow, what a profile in courage!

Can we give him the Nobel Peace Prize, just like the other cult leader hope and change leader?

I said it and stand by it. Only other candidate I’ve seen slap the press silly, as Trump has, was Reagan. Trump has faults, but he more than holds his own against the real opponent the bias press.
The rest may have decent policy positions, but are nothing more than effeminate boys when matched against press attacks.

And another thing, purist voters who focus on trivial policies when compared to the disaster that awaits us if Clinton is elected, deserve little respect. I know we like to think a perfect candidate exist, that is fantasy and always has been. The right choice is the one most capable of stopping the Dem. In your case, I’m sorry to inform you, it is Trump.

Oh how I love this.

Please name ONE Entitlement that once implemented has been abolished. Name one. I have asked the same question for Years here and I have never received an answer.

Well I did once, but the Poster wasn’t talking about an Entitlement, just a low cost Medicare program that didn’t do what the idiot Politicians hoped it would. Besides, People had to pay for it out of pocket at what was thought as a minimal cost.

The problem with Obamacare is that once implemented, it never goes away. It might be called something different, but it will NEVER go away.

Since we already have Medicare, Medicaid and the VA Medical Program, the Single Payer argument has been asked and answered. Ignoring the truth of all those Programs does not give any credibility to those who are acting like we don’t already have Single Payer in one form or another.

I am a Cruz supporter first, but he has yet to have a better answer in the so called Post Obamacare era than Donald Trump (my second and only other choice).

Sorry, you're wrong. Cruz has not been a "life long govt employee."

After Cruz finished his clerkships, he took a position with Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, now known as Cooper & Kirk, LLC, from 1997 to 1998.

After leaving the Solicitor General position in 2008, Cruz worked in a private law firm in Houston, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, often representing corporate clients, until he was sworn in as U.S. Senator from Texas in 2013.

All those private positions dealt mostly with govt law.

And actually, if I was looking for the candidate who would have the best understanding of running an operational business, that involves both manufacturing and service, with multi-national deals....I'd take Fiorina over Trump.

Being a real estate developer is not the same as running a large, Fortune 25 company.

Single payer is inevitable IMHO. Not saying that’s a good thing, but it’s a fact.

Obamacare was designed to inflict fatal damage to the existing system. It is already beginning to teeter and wobble. It WILL collapse, and the replacement will be single payer.

Which brings us to the point of just who is going to be in charge of it.

I agree with you, especially on the illegals. Also, I know of a lot of people that can afford nice things but don’t think they should have to pay one dime for healthcare, and they know they can get it for free.

Rafael is once again being a negative politician. Instead of bitching about your opponent, let’s hear him sing the praises of HIS PLAN.
This coming from a Trump supporter is just hilarious!

yea my jaw hit the floor. Cult members don’t have to think.

Trump has not said one thing about Cruz’s policies

This whole thing is simply bizarre.

Beyond.

There is only one proper conservative answer to what to do about health care, and that is to leave it up to the states.

Yup, that's one major "duh" there too.

As to federalism, the simple way to wrap it up is to say that natural law doesn't work unless stupid ideas are allowed to fail.

>>Donald trump employs tens of thousands of people. I am pretty sure he knows a thing or two about buying health care.<<

Seriously? Well then how about this? Donald Trump pays millions in health insurance premiums and would love to see the government take over those payments so the money would come out of all our pockets instead of his, cutting his labor costs significantly.

That would be a great deal for Trump, and everyone says he’s great at making deals....for himself anyway.

I'd point out that there are some people in business who support single payer for exactly that reason, so the fact that Trump is a businessman doesn't really tell us squat about what he'd do about health care.

Which is kind of why people are asking, and why "I know more about health care than anyone" really isn't an answer.
