Cruz hits The Donald on 'TrumpCare'
Politico ^ | February 1, 2016 | Dan Diamond with Joanne Kenen

Posted on 02/01/2016 7:36:04 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

CRUZ HITS TRUMP ON HEALTH CARE - AND HE'S KIND OF RIGHT - Locked in a close battle in Iowa, Ted Cruz is turning to health care in an attempt to separate himself from rival Donald Trump. A brutal ad airing in Iowa links "HillaryCare" and "ObamaCare" with "TrumpCare" - and uses Trump's own words against him.

"Everybody's got to be covered, this is an un-Republican thing for me to say," the ad quotes Trump saying on 60 Minutes last fall. "[And] the government's gonna pay for it."

Cruz pushed this message further on several Sunday shows. "A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for ObamaCare," Cruz claimed on Meet The Press. "Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have the identical position on health care. Which is they want to put the government in charge of you and your doctor. Now my views are polar opposites."

- TrumpCare remains vaguely defined. Trump called Cruz a "total liar" and declared, "I am so against Obamacare." But the thing is, Trump has repeatedly reiterated his commitment to some form of universal coverage - just as Cruz suggests. However, we still don't know any specifics of a Trump health plan, or how he'd pay for it.

Pressed again on Sunday, he still refused to offer details. "We'll work something out," Trump said on ABC's This Week. "Nobody knows health care better than Donald Trump."

You were already given that refutation, but here it is again.

You and I both know that “assertion” was laughable on its face. It sounded exactly like a DNC talking point.

So, how’s Trump going to stop “jihadi’s from England” coming here?
Let’s hear some specifics. Cruz gave specifics, what is Trump’s proposal?

So far, the only thing Trump has truly said about his plan for healthcare is to allow the sale of plans across state lines to reduce costs and increase competition.

That is conservative.

This socialized healthcare BS appears only in screeds like this one where there is an obvious attempt to sway voters using selective editing and less than truthful reporting. Yesterday was full of bogus headlines on this that didn’t match what was said.

Ted should go back to campaigning on his merits and stop listening to Beck and Levin. They aren’t helping him - they are actually helping Rubio.

You didn’t answer my question. What, exactly, is your preferred “executive with human resource experience” proposing? “We’ll work something out” isn’t a proposal.

----------

Since when did the executive branch write laws. How about Cruz stay in senate and write a law up to be passed when Trump is president - you know - do his job.

Cruz will never win a mud slinging contest with Trump...he should stop wasting his ammo, cut his losses and move on.

Focusing on his own message and plans for the country is the way to do that.

Trump has business dealings in several states. His business has to deal with health care costs separately in each state with multiple insurance companies to deal with. Has Cruz or Rubio ever have to make book on payroll as a business owner?

So what? There are millions and millions of business people in this country who have to deal with health care costs. And those millions and millions of people may have all sorts of completely different ideas about how health care should be handled (if at all) on the national level. The mere fact that you've run a business says absolutely nothing about national health care policy. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

When Trump says "nobody knows health care like I do" it tells us exactly nothing about what he is going to do. It's a useless bit of chest-thumping that can mean anything to anyone, which I frankly think is his entire point. He knows it is a divisive issue, so to ensure he doesn't alienate potential voters, he refuses to get specific. That way, people can read into his vague statements whatever they want, and then go on their merry way supporting what they imagine he's going to do.

Ad hominem without addressing my point. How typical of your side.

You don't understand what "ad hominem" means, do you? I wasn't attacking you personally, I was saying that your criticisms of Cruz were nonsensical.

You were criticizing Cruz for "being a negative politician," "bitching about [his] opponent," and failing to advance his own plan. My point was that you are projecting quite a bit - Trump has built his entire campaign on being a negative politician, bitching about his opponents, and leaving his policy proposals deliberately vague (see, e.g., "we'll work something out").

So, it doesn’t matter that Trump has no proposal, because the President doesn’t write laws?

Just because Cruz and Rubio are correct on the issues does not mean they are competent executives. That is what the presidency is - an executive leadership position. Their resume is piss poor compared to Trumps.

So that means you will vote Bloomberg if/when he runs? He has many very successful businesses, he has accumulated wealth that is magnitudes greater than Trump so he is obviously a better businessman, he has the executive experience you seek as both an executive in the private sector and in the public sector (as a Republican).

Based on your own criteria he is the perfect candidate.

For conservatives, however, he is as left as you can get and his worldview disqualifies him from consideration. The same rule applies to Trump.

Wouldn’t it have more sensible to have done an ad touting his plan than to go all negative. Trump and others have been hitting him on being nasty so why give them ammo.

Ted Cruz said he doesn’t care if people die in the street?

Really? Where? When?

My prediction: Folks you all have been brainwashed by your “Obamabot” & Republican Establishment media. Add to that farce...the Ted Cruz effort...and you have the world’s greateast serial lie tellers, excepting, of course, the number one America hater and would be destroyer, POTUS, Barack Hussein Obama!!!

IMHO. the turnout tonight on th Republican side will masssive, and new records will be set & exceeded!!! Donald Trump will win a large victory, Maybe even a landslide, crowned by strong Republican support and thousands of Democrat & Independent crossover voters.

Any Iowa voter that votes for Ted Cruz is wasting their most valuable vote!!! You would be better off voting for either Trump or Rubio. Cruz is simply a restricted candidate, who is only locked in to the radical right wing of the GOP, and, to boot, locked in with that madman, lunatic, ego-maniac, Glenn Beck!!! For goodness sake.....folks wake up. Ted Cruz brings nothing to the table, whatsoever!!! Get with program and change America....Make the USA Great Again!!! GO DONALD TRUMP!!!

Ted Cruz would let babies die in the streets if their parents can’t afford to pay for health care.

Trump called for not allowing ANY Muslims in, even those who leave the US on vacation. Stop them all, until a better way to screen them is put in place. And that can be done quickly.

ISIS has made an industry out of printing passports. How many do you suppose are being printed from countries that Ted says are OK?

That’s why England tried to ban Trump from entering their nation.

That’s why everyone is calling him an Islamophobe.

"If one is truly a conservative, one would leave it up to charitable people in each community to pay for indigent health care which is, of course, the largest unfunded cost in the health care system."

Back in the 50's and 60's it used to work that way. However once government got into the health care business via medicare, health care costs have sky rocketed. Just like higher education prices have sky rocketed with the introduction of government backed student loans. Once gov starts picking up the tab costs go up, up, up. But is it what it is and sadly there is no turning back the clock.
