Trump defends donations to Clinton Foundation. Does the Donald's explanation settle the issue?

Donald Trump has come under fire during the campaign for his supporting Hillary Clinton and specifically, the Clinton Foundation. Records show Trump donated $250,000 to the Foundation and many conservatives have questioned how he can run as a Republican while playing on his extensive ties with the Clintons.

The Hill:

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday explained why he gave a quarter of a million dollars to the Clinton Foundation before he ran for president.

“I did give to the Clinton Foundation. What I didn’t know is they’d be using it for private aircraft and things like that,” Trump said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“The Clinton Foundation was helping with Haiti and with lots of other things, and I thought it was going to do some good work, so it didn’t make any difference to me,” he added.

The real estate mogul also pointed to his business interests in cultivating support among politicians from each party.

“Again, I was a businessman, and it was my obligation to get along with everybody, including the Clintons, including Democrats and liberals and Republicans and conservatives,” he said. “As a businessman, I had an obligation to do that.”

As a high profile member of the New York establishment, Trump naturally gravitated toward the former president and his wife, the sitting Senator from the state. That he felt it necessary as a businessman to cultivate the Clintons is not in dispute. But some of the glowing words he had for Hillary are not easily reconciled with his current thoughts about her.

Is insincerity a part of "getting along" with everybody? That's what most Republicans will have to decide before they vote.

Nobody owns Trump. All the others are owned by someone else.

The only people making a issue about these sort of irrelevancies are those sad souls who’s candidate sucks so bad they cannot find anything useful to say about them and so are reduced to posting infantile snarks and bile laced tirades at the other candidate.

Really? Trump owes at least 480 million to the banking system he seeks to preside over.

Ahhh, nothing to worry about.

Lonesome Rhodes: Rednecks, crackers, hillbillies, hausfraus, shut-ins, pea-pickers - everybody that's got to jump when somebody else blows the whistle. They don't know it yet, but they're all gonna be 'Fighters for Fuller'. They're mine! I own 'em! They think like I do. Only they're even more stupid than I am, so I gotta think for 'em.

You see things clearly, and I believe you’re correct.
Based on his previous long-time associations, actions and belief statements, its reasonable to conclude Trump is in this race for more reasons than his altruistic concern for America and our citizens.
Trump = Perot 2.0

Yeah really.

His debt to equity ratio is what matters not the amount owed.

Do you happen to have that number handy?

On a much smaller scale, we "adopted" an elderly lady at the nursing home one Christmas who didn't have anyone. She was totally out of it so had no clue. We'd hardly walked out the door before the nursing staff was digging through the bags already divvying it up for themselves. We learned a lesson to never ever do that again. Of course, the ones who lost were the elderly.

Yes, it went to the Trump Foundation.

He has already begun distributing the money raised from the event....

Exactly. One could find many things with each candidate in both parties that don't match up with what their current supporters like about them.

What else is new. It's politics.

I would rather Trump be on the side of doing the paying than on the side of being paid/owned.

Up until last week, Donald had given more to the Clintons than to Veterans.

I have not seen anything saying he's actually moved that event money to them.

You must have not done the proper research.

shocking.

It’s been made public that 100% of the money raised in that rally the other night will be dispersed to the vets. 100%. That means the foundation is taking ZERO dollars.
