Fans of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 97% are buzzing about his encounter with an angry farmer worried that the Senator's stance against ethanol would ruin his livelihood.
It might be a bit of a stretch to say that Cruz completely won the man over, or converted him into a supporter - much is made of the gentleman's wish that Cruz find the votes he needs among Iowa farmers, but that might have just been polite best wishes, or even a dash of cynical humor.
Still, Cruz acquitted himself well during the encounter, spending some five minutes in patient, thoughtful conversation with someone who came to give him hell. Cruz made informed arguments, demonstrated a clear mastery of his subject, turned a hostile encounter cordial, and kept the political balloon juice to a minimum. He is a politician, mind you, but most of them can't get through a conversation of this length without dissolving into a mass of vague promises and bumper-sticker slogans.
Isn't this what voters always say they want - a serious discussion of the issues, and a politician standing on principle when he knows his refusal to deliver an easy pander is costing him votes?

I didn’t listen to the audio (sorry), but I have met the man and spoken with him for a few moments. I didn’t “come to give him hell”, but I was cynical and skeptical of him, as I am of all pols.
I heartily agree with this description. It’s an accurate description of some of Ted’s formidable strengths.
I am a solid supporter of Ted Cruz. He has won my support in a way no POTUS candidate has in more than two decades.
“Isn’t this what voters always say they want - a serious discussion of the issues, and a politician standing on principle when he knows his refusal to deliver an easy pander is costing him votes?”
It’s what voters say they want.
I think it is kind of like the girls who bemoan not being able to meet nice guys, but then routinely go to bars and get passed around a Hells Angel’s club.
The angry guy makes a point. Why not take away subsidies from energy companies in Texas? Of course Cruz didn’t answer that......typical.
And he’ll phase out ethanol after 5 years is what i’ve heard him previously say. Meaning he’s full of it! If he want’s to phase it out phase it out right away, 1st year. But like all Pols he keeps it right thru his 1st term!
So we can’t end one until we end them all? Moronic. Ethanol is the most wasteful and egregious, and it takes one heck of a politician to campaign for ethanol cuts in Iowa just before the major caucus in a tight political race.
Yep. But we do know that Cruz is a fraud and will saying anything to get elected.
Look. We need to Make America Great again. That means ethanol for everybody, forever, okay? If the ethanol mandates and subsidies end, it would be horrible, believe me. REALLY horrible.
Life-long independent oil producer here. (Stripper wells)
What subsidies are you talking about? I’d love to hear about them.
No but Cruz never said end subsidies to the energy companies which are in Texas. He is not bold at all. And 5 years after he is reelected so he can change his mind and keep the subsidies going. You blind Cruz lovers are nuts.
Phase outs make sense here. The farmers do need time to adjust to plan new crop strategies and find new contracts. Cutting it all at once would be unnecessarily tough on the entire Ag sector. There’s no need for an immediate cut, except for your feelings.
Are you serious? Name what taxes the companies pay? Oh that is right....none. Thank you. Game over. I win.
LOL!
I didn’t think so.
Had your hearing checked recently? Ted said remove all energy subsidies...get the government out of picking winners and supporting losers. (Solyndra)
Are you saying energy companies don't pay taxes?
Do you know how many people care about ethanol in this election? Neither do I, but it’s very damn few. Cruz Alinskyed himself by creating polarization where it’s wasn’t necessary.
Oh please. You are really really hot for Cruz. You believe every word of this fraud. I am so amazed that it is you! If someone told me that you were going to sell your soul to the devil a year ago, “I would have laughed and said no way not Mr. don-o”. That is impossible because he is a big person of principles. Wow.....what a primary says about people. Hopefully you will think about your fandom and see the wrongs of your past months. It is not too late to get back in God’s graces......thankfully.
Are you going to lie to everyone’s face and say they do?
A liar lies, it does not matter what they are lying about.
