Republican Sen. Ted Cruz managed to snag Iowa’s heaviest corn-producing counties despite his opposition to federal mandates and subsidies for ethanol. Does this mean King Corn’s days are numbered in the Hawkeye State?
Cruz snatched victory from challenger business mogul Donald Trump Monday night, but what’s most interesting is Iowa counties that grow the most corn supported the Texas senator despite his opposition to ethanol subsidies — ethanol is mostly made from corn.

Trump also jumped on Cruz for his opposition to ethanol, warning Iowans Cruz would “destroy” the industry if he wins Monday night’s caucus.
“He will destroy your ethanol business 100%,” Trump said Monday. “And look, I’m not really blaming him because he’s financed by oil people. The oil people don’t want ethanol, it’s very simple.”
“Your ethanol business if Ted Cruz gets in will be wiped out within six months to a year. It’s gonna be gone,” Trump warned.
Trump’s warning may have swayed some Iowans — Cruz won the state’s first and fourth-largest corn counties, but Trump was able to win three of Iowa’s top five corn counties.

Cruz's strong showing in Iowa suggests Hawkeye State voters are less beholden to the ethanol lobby than they had been in previous years. Polling up to the caucus showed the federal ethanol mandate was not a top concern for most Iowans.

Wow, where are buying your ethanol-free gas? I loathe ethanol, but a nearby station sells ethanol-free gas in regular, mid-grade, and premium grade for about .30 to .40 cents per gallon above the 10% garbage.
Some of us (me) would still have it due to the EPA requirement for reformulated gasoline in select areas.
LOL
Well, I hate the stuff.
For those of us in an EPA RFG area, the only choices for ethanol-free fuel are basically:

Didn’t see anyone interviewing that old sourpuss Gov. Branstedt, after his command that Iowans should not vote for Cruz was not obeyed. Hope his son, the ethanol lobbyist, doesn’t lose his well-paid job
Most Iowans who have brains, want to end all economy killing subsidies like; farm subsidies, medicare, war on poverty, corporate bailouts, green energy, and all the other insane subsidies that bloat government and incentivize poor business practice...
SoCal is paradise for carb rebuilders.
Whoa, never knew they sold it like that. Crazy.
Plus worse fuel mileage.
I took a 4000+ motorcycle trip last summer and averaged 41mpg. However, I filled the tank on three occasions with ethanol free gasoline. All three tanks gave me in excess of 45mph. One up to 47.
yeah, I hate ethanol.
By the way, I do not know about where you are, but in new Mexico and Mississippi where found the ethanol free petrol, the price was about the same as most midrange (89 octane).
If having your campaign staff at Caucuses lie about Donald Trump's positions, and telling people Carson was dropping out shows conservative principles, then I want no part of conservative principles.
Ted Cruz is as phony as they come.I regret that I thought he was the real deal when I voted for him in the primary & general here in TX.
$34.99 for six quarts of pure gas! That’s insane.
I despise ethanol gas. It corroded the carb in my Honda generator in just three months, bad enough that it had to be replaced.
Anything the government controls turns to crap. Fuel, healthcare, etc.
If you are only using it for a postage stamp sized yard, it may be cheaper than the engine/carb rebuilds.
Trump says he is not blaming Cruz, whatta guy.
Do Republicans in the rest of the states, 49 of them, want to be forced to buy ethanol in their gas just to get Trump some voting support in Iowa?
The “Conservative” has no clothes.
Are you implying that cruz works for Goldman Sachs? or that he is owned by them? He supports their business practices through corruption? What are you saying. The only connection between Cruz and those banks is his wife worked as a Account Manager there, and they took out loans on their assets to pay his Senate campaign.
Let me ask you are you in with the big banks? Do you have an account there? Any loans? stock? any connection at all? If so by what I think your argument is you yourself are in the control of the big banks.
If the explanation is given, and is simple doesn’t mean that there has to be a secret motive or plan behind it. Sometimes the simplest answers are correct.
The rest of the state’s citizens suffer from the same low-mileage, engine damages

In Iowa , Illinois and other corn producing states straight “no-ethanol” gasoline is usually sold alongside ethanol blends at a reasonable price differential , usually 10 to 15 cents more... they know it’s bad.
“Subsidies are the spending of Tax Dollars.
It is a massive benefit to those companies, but it is not a subsidy.”

That is not for corn. They are trying to develop an ethanol that is made from cocellulosic material like switchgrass, etc.
To me, a tax credit is essentially equivalent to a subsidy and the distinction between the two is mostly pedantic, having little economic content.
