Excellent and from an odd source. I thought TownHall was against Trump, yet this is his basic message.
The author of the op-ed is John Hawkins. Townhall.com published the op-ed
Trump does not own these ideas. Even here, we’ve talked about this for years.
This is Donald Trump’s message on some days... partially... depending on which Donald shows up and in which state he’s campaigning.
This is Ted Cruz’s message every hour of every single day.
Excellent read. Thx for posting.
Besides where in the op-ed is Trump even mentioned? The author mentions Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, but not any of the Republican candidates
Without Trump's ability to get his messages out, his ability to form a narrative using our media, the message would be permanently stuck reaching about 25% of America.
Without Trump's ability to take on the GOPe and rid us of people like Jeb, that percentage would be about 10%.
Trump definitely has had a beneficial impact on this election cycle. No argument there.
Trump has approached it as best he can without an overtly spiritual philosophy.
Helping America back to its feet, if it happens, will be a spiritual work. I don’t see Trump so much as a potential cause, but as a potential player in a larger movement which is not even as much of men as of God. And God doesn’t even need overtly religious people to do it. Some Trump friends have likened the potential situation to that of Cyrus the Great. He didn’t care (much, if any) about the God of the universe, but still was a benefactor to the ancient Hebrews when they were in the lurch.
I think of the passage where God said He was astonished that nobody was there to save, so He worked salvation by his own mighty hand. The church has forgotten its Lord and embraced a powerless form of religion which, instead of embracing society into mercy, has taught it cruelty. As the song a few decades back put it, “Sock it to you, in the name of the Lord.”
And I’ve gotten some flak for saying this but I will say it again. Modern “liberalism” (actually very worldly and illiberal) has marched right into that gap with its counterfeit come-ons. They resemble the mission of Christ about like the god Mithras did. But if there is no standard bearer for the heart of God, then an ersatz heart will walk off with what should have belonged to God’s heart. It is human nature to fall for it. We ask why the prodigal son ate the pig feed pods, it’s because he had to have some food and was distant from his father and could not get any other kind of food.
For the last 15 or 20 years I've been doing exactly that. I recently retired and the younger people that I worked with couldn't believe the common everyday freedoms that I enjoyed when I was their age that we no longer have.
I haven't seen anyone do this kind of thing since Reagan.
I do wish some of the Gipper's other traits would rub off on him a bit more.
Except when it isn’t and his deeds speak....
A sobering, truthful must read. Thank you my FRiend.
Bump
Trump is not mentioned. But most of what the author states fits with Trump’s hopeful but realistic vision.
There can be no lasting freedom without the positive love of God.
And there is a danger in this love, because by its nature it grants permission to refuse it as well as accept it.
And the church in America has more and more refused it, loving itself rather than God and calling that Christlikeness.
God’s imminent reaction? Ptui!
You got that right.
Thank you for that post.
Mr. Hawkins is saying exactly what many of us have been saying for 30 years or so, only more eloquently and succinct.
