The Iowa Republican winner appeals by trumpeting the gold standard, privacy rights and limits on eminent domain

Eric Eastman, a pony-tailed actor from Nashua, N.H., became a coveted commodity here last week.

In the hours after Sen. Rand Paul dropped out of the presidential race Wednesday, the libertarian state representative and passionate Paul supporter says he fielded a personal phone call from Jeb Bush and an offer from Donald Trump's campaign promising VIP treatment. Even an aide to Chris Christie reached out. But as he processed his grief over Paul's exit, Eastman already had a new candidate in mind.

On the night of Paul's exit, Eastman went to see Ted Cruz in Nashua, N.H. When Eastman asked for a one-on-one meeting with the Texas senator, the campaign invited him onto the senator's campaign bus, where Eastman chatted with Cruz about Medicaid expansion during an hour-long drive to Portsmouth. By Friday night, Eastman was onstage at a jam-packed Cruz town hall at an elementary school in Salem, N.H., offering his endorsement and telling the crowd that the Tea Party Texan and the Kentucky libertarian were "close cousins" philosophically...

Cruz has talked about the gold standard and worked with Paul on privacy matters, so I would think Paul’s supporters would gravitate to him. Also I don’t hear him beating war drums like Rubio does.

Ron Paul isn’t even a libertarian anymore. He just said that Bernie Standers (a totalitarian communist) is more libertarian the Ted Cruz!

Yes, I know, but let’s face it Ron Paul has long been out to lunch. He now says that Bernie Sanders, an out-in-out communist is more libertarian than Ted Cruz. The guy has gone off the deep and, and most libertarians I talk to already know it.

Yep, and that is precisely what has been happening...even before Rand dropped out.

To the Paul supporters:

If you want to move the window to a place where someone like the Pauls could get elected, your best hope to do that is Ted Cruz.

Remember the 2012 libertarian force in Iowa?

They were there on Iowa Caucus night for Ted Cruz.

This article gives the history. Very good read.

If Cruz can’t finish in the top two, I’m okay with Kasich taking the #2 spot over Aqualad.

Many libertarians do, but not all. But many libertarians also champion the 10th Amendment on those issues, and Cruz fits right in line with their views on that (even while probably disagreeing on the actual policies).

"....Until late last year, Trump was described as an "ardent philanthropist" in a biography posted to the Trump Organization's website. That language has since been removed.

As with Trump's politics, his donations do not fit neatly within traditional ideological lines: In 2012, he donated to the Gay Men's Health Crisis - founded by gay rights activist Larry Kramer - and the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, which decries the influence of the "gay lobby" and offers support to people pushing loved ones to "seek freedom from homosexuality."

A sizable portion of Trump's giving appears to be geared toward charities prominently affiliated with celebrities or politicians.................. Source

Of course not, but he is saying that they have more in common with him than the other candidates, and they are, in fact moving towards him. Which is all part of his overall strategy to put the Reagan Coalition back together again.
