McGrath: Ted Cruz Stands Alone On a Female Draft
Conservative Review ^ | February 8, 2016 | Art McGrath

After last week's surprise statements by two top generals that women should sign up for the draft just like men, Sen. Ted Cruz has set himself apart from his Republican rivals in the race for president by saying unequivocally that the idea is "nuts."

When questioned at a Senate committee hearing last week, the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Gen. Robert Neller and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley both said they thought women should have to register for Selective Service when they turn eighteen, just like men.

During Saturday's presidential candidate debate in Manchester, N.H., everyone on stage who spoke seemed to be in favor of it.

"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said of his rivals at a town hall style gathering in New Hampshire the next day. At a later campaign event he addressed the issue again, saying:...

The idiocy of the idea of drafting women is exceeded in the annals of absurd ideas, only by the pretense of a couple of the candidates, who implied that subjecting young women to the draft was some form of improved opportunity.

How about passing an anti discrimination law. Let anyone regardless of sex apply for ALL openings. This would of course include NFL, NBA, MLB, all high school and college teams etc.

If substantial numbers (35% or so) qualify then subject women to the draft.

I don’t have a problem with limiting sports teams and other activities to men only and women only. I really don’t think most women are fit for combat duty, although there are other duties they qualify for. The problem in drafting women is I’m afraid that the idiots would demand that half of combat duty be women, thereby weakening our military and not keeping us safe. Men and women have different physical characteristics but that doesn’t mean they are not equal human beings.
