I think the point the generals were trying to make is that if a select, vocal, and WRONG group of women want to be in combat roles, and force the issue, fine.

Conscript them all. When the majority decide life was better not having to think about mandatory conscription or having to kill another person, or possibly being raped while either being captured, or simply serving on a base somewhere in nowhere, they’ll tell the vocal minority to shove it.

I agree - I think that was exactly the reason they did it. To raise it as an issue during the political season so the underlying policy could be challenged.

I don't think they counted on most of the GOP candidates rolling over on the issue, though.
