Ted Cruz, the presidential candidate who wants to increase the H-1B cap by 500%

It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

Cruz's amendment was defeated by the Senate's Judiciary Committee, which approved an 180,000 H-1B cap increase in the comprehensive immigration bill. The House never acted on this legislation.

Cruz's H-1B amendment, however, proposed increasing H-1B fees from $1,500 to $2,500 for those with 25 employees or more. The money would be used to create block grants to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education.

During the Senate committee debate, Cruz said imposing restrictions on the visa was unnecessary, but said he would support restrictions if the Judiciary Committee – then debating the bill – would agree to his cap recommendation. Among the restrictions in the Senate bill was a provision aimed at large offshore outsourcing providers that limited their use of H-1B or L-1 visa workers to 50% of their workforce.

Cruz is part of large group of politicians who will not acknowledge the H-1B's visas use in offshore outsourcing or the reality of U.S. workers who are forced to train their visa-holding replacements. In defending this H-1B increase, Cruz cited a study by the American Enterprise Institute, which argued that visa workers create jobs. This organization primarily represents the views of large companies and asset management firms.

He wanted ZERO restrictions -- read the underlined again --

In the middle of his campaign when he got gob-smacked with this, he (1) Folded like a cheap suit and flip flopped., and (2) Said he "didn't know it was being abused" even though he ignored "offshore outsourcing".

STEM and IT workers nationwide should beware the H1B sudden flip flop of Ted Cruz

I have 3 pussy cats. Nothing offensive there

Avoiding a question of how to get info out of a terrorist if you feel within minutes and have to act fast, which enhanced interrogation techniques to use showed Cruz is totally PC.

We need a tough and decisive President. Obama is an example of how bad it is to have a weak waffling lead from behind leader. No thank you No Cruz.

Go Trump Go

It’s a visa they give to foreigners who they think have training in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). IT is ‘information technology”, one aspect of the STEM category. They come to our country and take American jobs even though we have huge numbers of workers trained in those areas.

They are desired because they take half the pay that the market is paying. First, their ‘degrees’ are suspect. Second, their “English” certifications are a joke.

H-1B is a program to make all indigenous STEM workers unemployed by importing foreigners as indentured servants to do their job at 60% of the prevailing wage. Once these foreigners get their green card and some do become US citizens then they vote Democrat.

Cruz is not understanding that we have lots of unemployed STEM people who are qualified and experienced available.

We are hiring High Tech Low Wage foreign SCABS.

Look at the Disney case. They had their qualified staff train the Foreign cheap labor Scabs first. Then Disney laid off their staffs.

The Disney staff was more experienced, but they have to pay for benefit that Scabs don’t get.

Disney wanted to lay off staff that makes 35% salary, vacation, pension. How do you think America can expect to have students go into Stem college courses, get loaded down with college loan debt, if all they see in their future is getting laid off at best and no jobs after graduation at worst.

Article is a year old. Cruz has not changed his position on a lot of things, but he has on this.

The Disney thing pushed him over, I believe. I also understand that his position is that H1B's should get the prevailing salary at a minimum, to ensure that there really is no U.S. workers available at that rate. That requirement would eliminate 90% of the problem.

not a threat

Tell that to your wife when you've been laid off and replaced by 3 Indian h-1b visa holders that can barley speak proper English.

HEY !!! Cruz !!!

When every American citizen has a job, and the registered aliens have a job, then we’ll talk about the need for foreigners to come here to work...
