Trump: Border wall will cost $8 billion

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN)Donald Trump estimated on Tuesday that it will cost about $8 billion to build the wall he has promised to erect on the U.S.'s southern border if elected president.

Trump has vowed to force Mexico to pay for the border wall and said Tuesday on MSNBC that the hefty $8 billion price tag "is a tiny fraction of the money that we lose with Mexico" on trade.

"The wall is probably $8 billion, which is a tiny fraction of the money that we lose with Mexico. We lose a tremendous amount of trade deficits. We have a trade deficit with Mexico that is astronomical, much bigger than that. We will get -- and I say it also is also part of my plan -- Mexico is going to play for the wall," he said.

Trump's proposal to build a wall on the U.S.'s southern border and his hardline immigration policies have become central to the billionaire's presidential campaign. But Tuesday marked the first time he has tacked a specific dollar amount to his border wall proposal.

Trump said he came up with the figure by "multiplying the number of miles by a certain number."

"I'm taking price per square foot and price per square, you know, per mile, and it's a very simple calculation," Trump said, noting that he would need to erect about 1,000 miles of border wall along the 2,000-mile long border because of natural barriers along certain parts.

Trump's pledge to make Mexico pay for the wall drew harsh criticism just days earlier from former Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

I was responding to the discussion regarding Taxing Money Transfers to fund construction of a secure Border Wall.

I have no idea what is unworkable or not, nor do I profess to. Taxing Money Transfers is one possible Funding source which denies a Wealth Transfer to Mexico and keeps the money here building Infrastructure and creating Jobs.

Do you want a Wall built to protect our Southern Border or not? Sounds like you are just fine with things as they are because you have an issue with Trump. Blinded by TDS is an accurate explanation.

The first issue is simply will it get done? So far the People we have running things are batting ZERO, that is why this issue resonates.

I am a Cruz guy first with Trump as my second choice. That doesn’t mean that I boo hoo Trump’s idea of actually building a Wall because the funding mechanism has to be figured out in regard to Mexico ultimately taking on the cost.

Get the Vaccine. Maybe you should get both Vaccines since Cruz has stated he wants a Wall built as well, although it won’t be as magnificent as Trump’s Wall. LOL

I want the southern border sealed and am looking for viable solutions from the candidates, not mindless crap. If Trump believes that a thousand miles of 30 foot tall wall is the solution then fine, implement it. But I suspect that Congress will give him fits and Mexico isn't going to pay for it.

LOL is amusing but not an answer to serious problems. Ted Cruz has talked often about the immigration problem, and if you can't remember what he proposed then perhaps it's because his proposals are more thoughtful, more rational than Trump's blathering. It's not as flashy or entertaining but it's likely far more likely to be accomplished.

Uh, Cruz said that he had the idea to build a Wall before Trump did. I’ve seen that Posted here numerous times.

Does that mean you disagree with Cruz now? You seem to marginalize the idea of a secure Border Wall, or is it just Trump’s version of a secure Border Wall that bothers you?

Is that because Trump mentions it often while Cruz doesn’t because it would sound like he is parroting Trump?

Yes, I will LOL at the silliness. Cruz or Trump will be the only ones that will make a dent in the problem which is one of the reasons I currently support both Men.

I also realize that by the time the Primaries hit my State, the Republican Nominee will probably be decided, so I may just be wasting Keystrokes here.

Face it, our Government is infested with People who care about the Status Quo than what’s good for America.

I believe that BOTH Cruz and Trump care about America first and foremost. You think only Cruz does and there is nothing that can be said to change your mind on that. So be it.

My focus will be on the eventual Republican Nominee taking down the DemoncRat Nominee. Listening to the two Commies yakking on last night, I would Vote my Dog over Bernie and Hillary.

Then again, I see a Biden / Fauxihantis Ticket in our future.

Off to work, have a good day.
