It’s on: New Cruz ad ridicules Trump as fake Republican

Like Donkey Kong. Ted Cruz scored a surprising third-place finish in New Hampshire in yesterday's first-in-the-nation primary, and now it looks like he's going for a knockout before South Carolina. Cruz tweeted out the campaign's latest web ad after his victory, one that takes aim at the winner, Donald Trump. The ad depicts children playing with their new "Donald Trump action figure," and says what he does most is "pretend to be a Republican"...

It's a tour de force of counter-Trump arguments. The ad manages to mention Trump's friendship with Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid (and adds in a shot at Anthony Weiner, too). Bailouts and Too Big To Fail get mentioned, but it's Trump's support for eminent domain that gets most of the attention (video):

...Trump is right about eminent domain. There would be no interstate highways, airports or oil pipelines without it.

Duh! Everyone knows that. Everyone does not know Trump tried to use if for his personal use and lost. The astounding thing is none of his supporters care about any of his progressive issues and blindly trust what he says he is today.
So he build a fortune in business bribing politicians, intimidating other companies and using the mob. Is that really enough to earn your vote?

Nobody that I know of is seriously arguing that it is wrong to condemn property to build interstate highways, airports or oil pipelines, the argument is over whether condemnation can constitutionally and morally be employed to seize someone's house to build a parking lot for limousines for gamblers attending Donald Trump's casino?

What does the Constitution say?

Article V says:'nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.'

So the question becomes whether under the United States Constitution (and the New Jersey Constitution and enabling statutes for that matter) a limousine parking lot for Donald Trump is a "public use"?

This is the acme of crony capitalism in which a city can accede to the ambitions of a developer like Donald Trump and condemn property for his economic advantage, then justify it to the courts because it enhances tax rolls.

The Supreme Court, of course, has ruled that such takings are for a public "use." Does that make Trump right? Does it tell you that Donald Trump believes in limited government? Does it tell you whether or not Donald Trump will invoke government to his advantage at the cost of much weaker people?

Doesn't it tell you what kind of man Donald Trump is?

quote “Cruz pretends to be a leader. Historically, I don’t see anyone following.”

I do have to agree with you that “leader” is not a word I would use to describe Cruz. I believe Cruz to be ... a true believer, a fighter, and one who will stand up for his principles against opposition.

But, he is leading a protest of one.

He is like the guy holding a sign by himself outside of the white house that’s ticked off about some issue, but can’t organize anyone else to join him, even though many agree with him.

At least Ted finished ahead of Jeb Bush (but behind the mailman's son, Kasich).

He barely beat Bush. But according to all the scribes, he won yesterday. Besides, he's more electable than Trump /sarc. Cruz doesn't need any states outside of the south (which he won't win anyways).

“The issue is using eminent domain for private projects.”

The Keystone Pipeline is a private project.

He did outperform his polls again, but it’s still bronze.

That ad is silly, and not surprisingly based on a false premise.

-- Even conservatives support eminent domain for legitimate public purposes. But that does not include expansion of private business nor expansion of the tax base. --

I'm going to guess that is an "it depends" point. For a casino parking lot? You are right - conservatives will say "pay the price the landowner wants, or build around them." But a hospital or hospital expansion might cause the opposite, especially if the landowner is unyielding, won't move for ANY amount of money.

Do you think eminent domain is a big issue to the voters? If yes, do they also think the president of the US is in charge of eminent domain?

Article V says:'nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.'

The question becomes, what is just compensation? I think when property is "taken" the compensation needs to have a significant premium to market value.

Cruz got his rear handed to him yesterday. He barely beat Bush. Spin it anyway you like, but the reality is he got smoked.

If you think Trump built a fortunate by buying politicians, intimidation tactics at which he puts Alinsky to shame and using the mob makes him a presidential candidate so be it.
I can’t argue with that.

Donkey Kong is an old 2-D video arcade game. Similar to Mario, if you know that one.

About eminent domain and Trump - My relatives in the Atlantic City area in the 80’s told me the story of Trump and the widow. She kept holding out for more money when he’d already offered her two million for her little house on the strip. So he built his casino or whatever it was over, above and around her house, putting her in the shadows. My relatives were laughing about it and thought it was brilliant. It was for the good of the area.

Nwe Hampshire is a pretty liberal state. It didn’t used to be, but it got invaded by refugees from The People’s Republic of Taxachusetts (and some from Vermont.)

It’s surprising that an unabashed conservative like Ted Cruz did as well as he did. Especially with the media (even the “conservative” media) trying to make sure he didn’t.

Who won?

The idea Ted did good despite spending only a little there, ignores the fact Trump spent very little there too, and more than tripled Ted's numbers.

By the way, Trump didn't place all his eggs in one basket to win New Hampshire. He's been holding rallies in many places. He didn't particularly work hard to win New Hampshire either.
