I keep seeing the "Trump is not a conservative" statement all OVER the place and I don't think people really care ... at this point

Whether Trump is a conservative or not has nothing to do with MY fantasy of resurrecting Norman Rockwell and making America great again

If folks want to pre-emptively complain about Trump .... maybe they should be looking at the next family dynasty

Now THERE'S an argument you might sink your teeth into

But Trump a conservative ... or populist ... or (some have said) socialist ... ?

If he builds the wall and closes the immigration door to muslims ... he will have accomplished more than any president since Kennedy

“If he builds the wall and closes the immigration door to muslims ... he will have accomplished more than any president since Kennedy”

Precisely. No other candidate is as serious about this as Trump. It’s his top priority.

And if it doesn’t happen soon, nothing else is going to matter.

Most Americans are not THAT demanding of a strict definition of conservatism
If not, then the country is kaput. No “moral and religious people” in the majority as John Adams put it, no USA.

They do care, or you wouldn’t be seeing it. You and people like you are pushing your “fantasy” of what you think Trump is instead of looking at the reality of what he is.

And he is no conservative. He’s a big government Liberal.

Trump is a pragmatic conservative. It’s all about winning the general, and he can do it. Cruz with his purist conservative ideals can’t.

Many Americans may not care, but conservatives do.

What good is a wall if the majority of the illegals are allowed to come back in in an expedited fashion?

What good is there in ending Obamacare if it is replaced by another massive government program?

What good is there in keeping a big government liberal out of office if the guy you put in has zero interest in small government at all?

Right or wrong, the Supreme Court controls our fate on many issues. With multiple vacancies pending, what good is keeping a Dem from filling them if the guy you put in ends up giving you the same type of judges?

What good is there in opposing affirmative action and then electing a guy who supports it?

If the Democrats and establishment Republicans and their policies are a problem for this country, what good is it to elect a guy who has pledged to make more deals with the worst of that lot?

Either you believe in something, or you don’t in my view. If conservatism isn’t important, then we can keep nominating moderates like Trump, McCain, and Romney. Sure, Trump will fight harder than those two ever did. But, if he believes the same things or is to the left of them on some issues, does it really matter?

Yes a wall is important. But what will it cost? Congress isn’t going to just give it to him, which means he needs to compromise with them. It means he needs to give the McConnells and Pelosis of the world something significant in return.

How much of what is important to you are you willing to sacrifice in return for a structure? Is letting say 7 or 8 million of the 11 million illegals back in a fair price? Is a permanent liberal majority on the Supreme Court a fair price? What about a permanent liberal majority in Congress thanks to those new citizens? Higher taxes? A assault weapon ban? What do you think he’ll have to give them in exchange for what he wants?

Are you still in favor of a wall?

Donald J. Trump

Yes, in certain sections, you have to have a wall, absolutely.

If YOU don’t believe in everything the same as I do and if YOU don’t support the candidate I’m supporting then YOU’RE obviously no REAL conservative!.............So there!

Another excuse offered up by a TRUMP (PRAISE BE TO HIS NAME!) supporter for Trump’s obvious lack of grounding in conservative principle.

How so........ Unexpected!

Agree, I believe a lot of us are tired of the political litmus test and the parroting: “He’s not a conservative!”
Especially now that we have jokers at National Review and other places, the RNC in particularly, saying like Humpty Dumpty: “When I use the word `conservative, it means exactly what I intend it to mean and nothing more.”
To them it means electing more conservative numb-nuts like McCain.
I don’t care what others call him if he does what he says he’ll do.

“Oh but he won’t TD! He’ll break your heart. He’s evil ... “
Only gypsies and those suffering from TDS have crystal balls:

Trump haters, with balls made of glass(es),
Their litmus test? One really of class(es) ...
..When their `nads crash together,
..They play `Stormy Weather’
And lightning shoots out of their a**(es).

Thank you, Thank you very much!
You’ve been a great crowd.

Exactly. He is, by far, the most conservative candidate on the issues I care about the most. Illegal immigration and homeland security.

Build a wall. Keep the Muslims out.

If he builds the wall and closes the immigration door to muslims

Of course, believing he will do any of this requires a tremendous leap of faith.

Trump is very clearly a conservative, he just has a different focus than Ted Cruz on how to justify that leaning, and how to address the specific issues. If they can be persuaded to work together, each will benefit from the association; each will better understand the complementing motivations of their respective supporters.

Based on my many decades in the battle for the American tradition: Support For Trump & Cruz.

I am not suggesting that either abandon the campaign--not at all;--only that they stop the exchange of personal insults, and that their respective supporters do likewise.

(By the way, thank you for quoting me)

Plenty of people are claiming he is a conservative. And this is a conservative web site. Hillary Clinton is also not a conservative, but I don't see people around here supporting her.

And the problem is, if you look at Trump in his totality, you realize that his talk about immigration is nothing more than a way to attract attention. There is a statistically insignificant difference in the likelihood Trump "will build a wall," and Hillary will.

You would be surprised how many conservatives are nowhere near what the “accepted” definition, that we are fed by National Review, says they are.

Many people that have channels on YouTube that have hundreds of thousands of subscribers are:

Not very religious/or are atheists
Strongly pro 2nd amendment
Extremely anti-feminist
Very libertarian
Vocal about their opposition of PC and “social justice” industry
Against entanglement in other nations.
Anti-socialist and pro capitalism.

They are gamers, love pop-culture, young, and span all different demographics

That Guy T:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLJkNhB1Eg_mXx0quUju0Og

Mister Metokur:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfYbb7nga6-icsFWWgS-kWw

Rocking MrE
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzOnXvfwc32YEiwTe_8Nf-g

People that were known as “South Park Conservatives”.

They just dont care for the more pious wing of conservatism that go to crap over hearing the word “pussy”, but think they have the ability to boss everyone else around. People that far too often can barely use a current tech, but think they know how to win because they listened to Rush for 25 years on the same AM radio. The people that think knowing the most bible verses is the defining value of a candidate.

They want a candidate to push back against the left and not be afraid. They want a cheerleader for this nation and not apologizing for its existence. A person that loves this nation in a way that many people didn’t think you had permission to anymore.

Whether some get it or not, that combo has massive legs.
