POLICE ARE crediting a vigilant gun owner with saving the life of an Upper Darby cop Friday after he saw the officer being attacked and surrounded by a large group of teens.

"There were 40 kids. If it wasn't for the good Samaritan stepping forward, he'd have been dead meat," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. "There's no doubt they would have attacked him."

About 3 p.m. every weekday, from six to eight township police officers patrol the area near Upper Darby High School as nearly 4,000 kids pour out of the building on Lansdowne Avenue near School Lane.

That sounds as dangerous as in Iraq. No policeman should be patroling alone in that area. No exceptions!

Thank God. Been a rough neighborhood as long as I’ve been around. Chitwood is a good guy, been serving in that area a long time. Thankful to see an armed citizen come to the aid of the police officers.

Most likely not even residents of Upper Darby. A lot of yutes matriculate there illegally.

when I was a kid I used to go shopping on 69th street every Saturday. I saw a lot of great shows at the Tower too.

That’s why God invented drum magazines... For just such an emergency...

Besides, I thought all cops carried 12g riot guns and/or AR15s in their cruisers now...?

Who says it wasn't a black homeowner that saved the cop? (I didn't read the whole article, so excuse me if I'm wrong.)

I was three blocks from The Tower on Friday. You know where St. Alice’s Church is?

Those who choose the thug life will suffer the thug life consequences. Like Trayvon and Saint Michael Brown. These thugs were lucky.

This story is out of Pennsylvania, so my inclination is to believe Amish youths were likely involved.
That said, how long before the Good Samaritan is charged with a crime, sued, loses his job, or is otherwise negatively impacted over this episode?

Two thought. First, this show the line “no one needs and automatic weapon” to be a lie. Second, why did the “kids” listen to an armed home owner and not an armed cop. I think the “he didn’t point the weapon” statement may have been for the home owner’s legal benefit.

The REAL crooks wear ties and attend dinners.

Their only real concern is getting enough $$$ to buy the next election.
