Women should have to register for the draft
CNN ^ | 2/10/2016 | Ruth Ben-Ghiat

Should United States women be required to register for Selective Service when they turn 18, as United States men are obliged to do currently?

Yes, argued Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley in a recent Senate hearing. Yes, agreed Republican presidential candidates Chris Christie, Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush, all fathers of girls, when asked their opinions on the matter during the last GOP debate. But Ted Cruz called the idea "nuts," seeing it as an example of foolhardy "political correctness."

Some women are capable of combat, I would say most aren’t though. In fact, when I think of a lot of young girls and women I know, the prospect of them being forced to fight in combat makes me feel sick.

The military has become the left's plaything, rife with social activism and social experiments (with a few small enclaves of exceptions).

Does anyone really believe this will have any affect on anything?

If women are going to verbally and legally berate, accost and sometimes charge men with sexism, then they need to MAN up and serve. But since most of the ones doing the screaming are all mouth and fat, they know what they would look like trying to make the grade.

Frankly I believe we should bring back the draft. It served our country well by involving all levels of Americans in serving, not just 1%. There are many functions in the military that both males and females could do to replace hiring costly contractors. I’m not a fan of women in combat because it potentially complicates the mission.

Saw an excellent post yesterday by stosh explaining that this is all about transgender horseclinton:

Note that so-called “trans-gendered rights” is the cause du jour among the enlightened these days.

Currently (if I’m not mistaken), if you’re born with male genes but “identify” as female, you’re still required to register for the draft. But if you’re born with female genes and “identify” as male, you’re not.

Which means for all practical purposes, the federal government has established a precedent that says you don’t have to honor some individual’s delusion of what sex they claim to be (local laws to the contrary notwithstanding).

UNLESS both males and females have to fill out a selective service form - then the distinction above becomes moot.

THAT’S what I believe is the basis for this sudden interest in registering females for the draft.

I have to agree with Ted Cruz. The Selective Service and draft registration of anyone, men or women, is just a political gimmick. The draft hasn’t been used since 1974 for the Vietnam Nam War. With legislative caps on men and women in uniform, the selective service serves no purpose. A better solution, although it will never pass political muster, would be for all persons to serve at least one year in some capacity. That would bring back some appreciation for the military. Anyone who avoids would have negative doubts cast upon them.

She's wrong in lumping them together.

Bush, Christie, and Rubio not only said they support registering women, but essentially also endorsed putting women in combat units.

The Commandant of the Marine Corps opposes putting women in combat units, or having a gender integrated boot camp. The Secretary of the Navy overruled his objections.

Two military vets in Congress have offered legiation to have women register for the draft - not because they actually want women to register, but because they oppose women being in the ground combat arms. And the legal reality is that the elimination of male-only ground combat units means that the courts would strike down a male-only draft registration anyway.

Those Representatives and the Commandant are trying to start a national debate on the underlying issue of women in combat units. Those who attack them for supporting registration are missing that point completely.

BS. By every measure a random group of women will be slaughtered by a random group of men in any physical contest.

I will not consent to the precious young women of this nation being slaughtered so politicians can put a feather in their cap.

Moreover, I’ll not consent to our nation knowingly fielding an inferior fighting force.

Some of us are weary of our country going to war in far off places while leaving our borders wide open and inviting in Trojan horses. So if it pushes to end or minimize wars I’m content with that. I’m also content with ending all immigration until we have jobs for Americans.

It’s a poison pill maneuver intended to see to it the country never goes to war again.

Not on the conservative side it isn't. On the side of the Commandant, Duncan Hunter JR., etc., it is a poison pill maneuver designed to reverse Obama's decision to force ground combat units to accept women.

That's why I changed my position and now I think women should be drafted as well.

A male 18 YO who doesn't register for the draft cannot qualify for many government benefits. An 18 YO woman with three kids out of wedlock gets a full ride.

While there are so many thing wrong with this it does demonstrate a double standard.

Before I get hammered, I endorse compulsary military service for everyone, no peace corps alternative, no feel good social justice alternative, just two years of reality check.

This is a ploy to fundamentally change our military. The goal is to emasculate it by forcing the USMC to accept he tramnys

That’s going to happen anyway - independent of the draft issue - if Congress or the next President doesn’t stop it.

I do not think there should be a draft at all. Hillary would implement it and use it to kill off the children of the white middle class.
