Raising tariffs on Chinese crap will give the guy at McDonald's a living wage? Or will it just make his iPhone more expensive?

Once Apple is forced to repatriate their factories to the USA the price will come down dramatically.

I’d rather pay more for goods than for welfare.

UTX, not UTC. Imagine the hoops they had to jump through to get down to the 25.5% they paid in 2014. How many more manufacturing workers versus lawyers and accountants, if the rate were 15% or 20%?

I'd rather pay more for quality made US goods than for welfare.

Fixed. In the long run it is cheaper anyway.

Looks more like you'd rather pay more for goods and pay for welfare.

I want to tax anyone pumping manufactured goods subsidized by the Chinese government into oblivion

China takes a $20 widget, spends $5 in taxes to sell it to us for $15.

What do you want to do to punish the Chinese government for wasting their money?

Same for anyone employing illegals.

Make e-Verify mandatory. Catch illegals whenever they interact with our government. No more catch and release. No more spending billions to educate their kids. No more spending billions on illegals at the ER. Boot the first 10 million, millions more will leave on their own.

You need a 300% tax on your McDonald’s.

“NAFTA was a bad deal”.......

I said that very thing about two years ago and got crucified right here on FR. Well, I still believe NAFTA was a MAJOR MAJOR error on the part of our people and now look at what has happened. Foreign countries with far less skilled people are eating our lunch and the problem is WE are PAYING them to do it. Trump is right when he says put a heavy tariff on all incoming goods and equal the playing field.

If the USA placed an embargo on all consumer electronics coming into the USA what would happen? Do you think Apple would build a plant in the USA? Duh? Of course they would. The USA is a huge market.

Well, one option would be for the U.S. to rescind NAFTA, and for you to send a check to the U.S. Treasury for all the savings you received over the past couple decades.

NAFTA has to be done away with or renegotiated.

At the same time, the corporate tax has to change. It'll come back 10 fold if we keep jobs here and let the workers fill the fed coffers.

Embargos usually backfire. Ask Thomas Jefferson.
