Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) released a statement Saturday night following the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia that contained a warning shot to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): Don't play politics with filling vacancies on the Supreme Court bench.
"It would be unprecedented in recent history for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat," the statement read. "Failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate's most essential Constitutional responsibilities."
Read the full statement below:
"There is no doubt Justice Antonin Scalia was a brilliant man. We had our differences and I disagreed with many of his opinions, but he was a dedicated jurist and public servant. I offer my condolences to his family."
"The President can and should send the Senate a nominee right away. With so many important issues pending before the Supreme Court, the Senate has a responsibility to fill vacancies as soon as possible. It would be unprecedented in recent history for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat. Failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate's most essential Constitutional responsibilities."
I hate to agree with you, but you may very well be right. A majority of lefty gun-grabbing totalitarian socialists on the USSC may leave no other option. At the very least it means gun confiscation and an unstoppable flood of illegals with voting rights.
If the Republicans cave on this we should have every one of them hanging on a lamp post before sunset.
BINGO! Perfect...
No we won’t!
Indeed.
Sorry, the R’s are going to cave on this. An exercise machine (or is that Harry’s brother) has more victories against Harry than Republicans.
Someone can’t retire too soon, nor get too much out of his exercise equipment...
I wish I had your optimism. We’ve allowed out deficit to grow 10 trillion with Republicans in the House. When is the last time the Rs ever confronted Obama on anything?
It’s too late in the season for a pick. Have to wait till the summer of 2017.
FU HR
This is too close to the Presidential election, and with it being Scalia’s seat, not another liberal’s, in a 5-4 “conservative majority” (often doesn’t seem like it), this will be too much of a fight going on at the same time as the election.
Those two battles, and the Clinton email investigation as well, in which it’s obvious to everyone but diehard Democrats she isn’t qualified to handle classified information.
To have all that going on may force the Dems to not nominate someone, or else not fight for the person.
Not to worry Hairy, the Republican members of the Uni-party will do the right thing and confirm anyone the boy king nominates.
Please Hairy, remember any opposition voiced is just for the consumption of the rabble back home.
Elections do. Just look at what the eunuchs we elected have done to this country.
How Harry Reid, can say with a straight face, with his Senatorial record that:
“...failing to fill this vacancy would be shameful abdication of one of the Senate’s most essential Constitutional responsibilities...”
How funny, that Harry Reid, can say with a straight face, considering his Senatorial record:
“...failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate’s most essential Constitutional responsibilities...”
Or what? You’ll send your exercise equipment to beat us up?
Hey Dingy! Bite me you commie *****!
