Trump Was Half-Crazed, But Does Anyone Care?
National Review ^ | February 14, 2016 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 02/14/2016 3:52:35 AM PST by reaganaut1

I feel like we’re back in the pre-Iowa period when no one could figure out whether Donald Trump skipping the Iowa debate would hurt him–by the normal rules, of course it would hurt him; by the Trump rules, it wouldn’t make a difference and maybe even help (by demonstrating strength).

By the normal rules, Trump embracing a blood libel about George W. Bush (he knew there were no WMD in Iraq), saying Planned Parenthood does great things, and often swinging wildly and angrily would hurt him a week out from a primary in Bush-friendly, hawkish, socially conservative South Carolina.

But we’ll see. Certainly Trump’s behavior reinforces the idea that he’s disruptor and not just another politician, and Republican voters might not mind so much that one of the candidates is outspokenly anti-Iraq war (even if he takes it too far). Trump continues to be able to interrupt everyone else with impunity and act the Big Man on stage, with no one really able or willing to assert themselves against him.

Jeb is trying the hardest. He continues to improve–he seems a bit more relaxed and authoritative every debate– and did better against Trump than ever before. But some of his strongest moments were defending his family and although that is honorable, I’m not sure how much that gets him. He has still not figured out how to clearly best Trump, even when he has the better of the argument.

Rubio was very good. A little sharper, a little more conversational. He probably got in more telling jabs against Trump in the Iraq debate than Bush did (although I doubt anyone cares much that Bush was enforcing U.N. resolutions).

Trump sounds like a left-wing Democrat on Planned Parenthood and George W. Bush's "lies" about Iraq. He is no conservative, and he is a boor.

Lowry has shown himself to be over-the-top GOPe. His interest is in discrediting all candidates that are not GOPe so that there is nothing left but Bush, Rubio or Kasich.

Ted lies and plays dirty politics - but does anyone care?

Plus Ted said Trump would appoint only liberal judges. Trump was the only candidate wththe debate with names of who he would pick: Diane S. Sykes and Bill Pryor.

Are they “liberals”? Or is that another Cruz lie?

Bush doesn't want to be President.

But the more interesting thing is why he gets away with it, if he sounds that way.

A ‘boor’ to watch over our “representative” “whores”.

Seems appropriate.

Trump is not afraid of a fight, he is not afraid of these bullies on both sides trying to take him out and when he is in office he will not hesitate to take on the worlds bullies. If you cant fight the little fights at home how do you fair on the world stage when your up against much worse

At times Trump reminds me of Mel Gibson.

And history will definitely remember President Donald Trump.

Trump sounds like a left-wing Democrat on Planned Parenthood and George W. Bush's "lies" about Iraq. He is no conservative, and he is a boor.

He qualified his "support" of Planned Parenthood by explicitly excluding support of its abortions. No harm in being fair. He was wrong about G.W.Bush's "lies" about Iraq. His supporters do not think he is right about everything. Neither is every other candidate. He is right about many other issues (need they all be listed now?) that override his shortcomings. It's as simple as that.

I watched that “debate circus”. From the get go, the CBS “moderators” put Trump on the defense, having no audience support, he was constantly “booed” by the crowd as he attempted to give his responses to loaded questions. Trump immediately let them know his displeasure but to no avail, they kept at him. He was setup and was put at a disadvantage even before the circus got underway. The real problem is the other candidates have not yet learned to NOT make the Donald mad as he WILL have the last word. I am not certain that he fared well but the others were not strong enough to overtake him in the long run.

How is it that 1) defending any aspect of Planned Parenthood’s existence and 2) unabashedly blaming George Bush for 9/11 and 3) calling him a liar a good strategy in South Carolina, unless your supporters really don’t care what you have to say about anything. You just have yell and assert “I will make America great again.”

He said PP’s procedures regarding pap smears, mammograms, etc. were good for women’s health but NOT ABORTION. He has said this many, many times in the press, TV, rallies, but his enemies like to twist it to his somehow supporting abortion.

I was disappointed in Ted tonight, that he stooped to use Donald’s statements on PP as implying support for abortion. That was a lie and Donald was right for calling him out on it. Ted’s counter was lame.

I am rethinking my preference for a Trump-Cruz ticket. In light of Antonin Scalia’s death, I am thinking Ted should be his replacement. I am thinking Donald should pick Ben Carson as his running mate because Ben is gentle and he is intelligent. He will be perfect to counter Donald’s grizzly nature which is perceived as ‘bulliness’ by the elderly and meek. I personally like Donald’s grizzly nature and think it’s what the country needs now, but Ben would soften the image of the ticket.

But Ted has devoted his whole life to one day becoming President, but his time has not yet come. If he was Donald’s VP, he could provide a conservative influence to keep Donald on the right track. He would also be groomed to be the next President after Donald.

In either case, Donald needs to pick a running mate that will bring enough GOP delegates to head off an attempt at a brokered convention. He needs about 54% of delegates to do that.

That was hilarious! Jeb dragging his octogenarian mother out the snow in her WALKER in NH was about as pathetic as they come.
