Saudi Arabia has commenced a massive military drill in which 20 nations are participating. The move comes amid ongoing deadly conflicts in the Middle East.
More than 2,500 warplanes, 20,000 tanks and 450 helicopters will be part of the exercise. Riyadh has billed the manoeuvre as "the largest and most important" drill ever staged in the region.
Up to 350,000 troops from various Gulf nations, and other allies such as Pakistan, Jordan, Chad and Sudan will take part in the drill, the Saudi Press Agency said. The exercises would involve ground, naval and air forces personnel.

Our US Presidents and Russia helped get them this arsenal. What will they eventually do with it?
they will invade Syria from Jordan
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! Have these plans considered global warming!!!!
And whose ‘rebels’ or government forces will they help? As far as I can tell Obama is on both sides. Will they be?
I don’t think Saudi Arabia HAS 20K tanks, much less crews for them.
From the article: Termed “The Northern Thunder”, the drill will continue for 18 days. The aim of the exercise is to send the message that Saudi Arabia and its allies “stand united in confronting all challenges and preserving peace and stability in the region”. Neither the US nor any Western nation is part of the event.
I wonder if now, for the first time in human history, Arabs can enforce peace in their region.
Exactly! Where do these numbers come from? They sound Biblical.
Seems like Saudi Arabia is having trouble beating Yemen.
I think the author added up the military equipment list of all the participating countries and not the equipment that will be deployed for the exercise!
There is probably a lot of old T-54/55 in that count.
They will rid Syria of the zealots and allow a Sunni state along the Euphrates in both former Syria and Iraq
Assad will be deposed and a new government will be formed within the territory south and east of the Euphrates
20,000 tanks is something like 50-100 armored divisions, an order of magnitude more than the entire world has. Maybe 20,000 personnel assigned to armored or cavalry units, implying 200-500 tanks?
What do the Saudis care about global warming?
It would only make it easier to move through those northern parts of the Middle East, while they are establishing THEIR version of the Great Caliphate. There shall still be the struggle with Shi’ite factions, Iran mostly, but battles fought in warmer conditions are usually much more conclusive more quickly than those fought under really cold conditions.
Consider the US Marines being turned back by the North Koreans and the winterized Chinese Communist troops at Chosin Reservoir in 1950 and 1951, or the German Nazis crippled by the winter at the assault on Stalingrad, where the Germans finally surrendered in early 1943.
The advancing troops could have used a little “global warming” right about then.
Boy, if the Saudis do something stupid and lose those toys, the oily Kingdom would be in a world of hurt.
We’ll see. No zealots, no jihadi’s or head takers then?
you miss the point...... they are already in a world of hurt and are extricating themselves
I notice Egypt is not in the mix.
I think it’s mainly Sunni forces (much smaller than the figures given) preparing for a Shia-led assault.
And I don’t think the forces employed (other than from Jordan and Pakistan) are really ready to fight a first-class war.
And there it is ... in Yemen, the Saudis are following the Iraqi example and abandoning weapons, vehicles, M1A1s and running ... the apparently vaunted huge army suddenly materialized (out from where it was hidden beneath some palace) is marching in formation - something it does well, but whose tactics and training are internal, having zero logistical support, and zero external expeditionary training - witnessed by many Yemenis.
So the Syrians and the Russians are shaking in awe of this mighty force of wealthy Arabs and their precision marching ...
>>What will they eventually do with it?
Make the usual suspects Lots and Lots of $$$$$$ ?
