Thomas Sowell Endorses Ted Cruz
Ricochet ^ | 2/16/16 | Claire Berlinski, Ed.

Posted on 02/16/2016 5:33:10 AM PST by TBBT

Noting with sorrow Justice Scalia’s death, Sowell begs his readers to sober up:

The vacancy created on the Supreme Court makes painfully clear the huge stakes involved when we choose a President of the United States, just one of whose many powers is the power to nominate justices of the Supreme Court.

After enumerating these, and indirectly reminding readers that the next president is apt to be a wartime president, he makes his views about Trump perfectly clear:

Against this background, the frivolous rhetoric and childish antics in the televised political “debates” are painful to watch. If ever there was a time to choose a president with depth, rather than glitter or glibness, this is it.

Trump’s behavior is often that of an “overgrown spoiled brat,” he remarks:

If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be? Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?

There’s something wrong with you. A conservative icon in the print news endorses a guy that’s not Trump and you just flame.

Did he endorse McCain and/or Romney in the primary? Just wondering.

Sowell stayed out of it in 2008. In Dec 2011 he endorsed Newt Gingrich.

Despite Trump’s “25 Stories” line, Trump was hawking for toppling Iraq until August 2004 when we had boots on the ground and he joined the barking harpies bashing our mission and C-I-C.

He hated Reagan, Bush, and now Cruz but loves Carter, Obama, the Clinton’s, Pelosi, Reid, Hugo Chavez and Putin. He wanted Bush impeached but claiming Obama would be a martyr and would not impeach.

“Trump said no Senator has endorsed him.. but you knew that”

Since Trump hates the Washington establishment, I guess you are saying that is an endorsement?

So when Mitch McConnell endorses Trump, you will be in pig heaven?

“Cruz just can’t win”.

Well, that’s it. End all of the primary’s now and just put Trump on the ticket. So says Harpotoo.

Trump’s candidacy has created a new definition of conservatism - support Trump or you are not a conservative, even if his positions are unconsertive.

Every one of Trump's positions is pro-America...That trumps any convoluted version of conservative you guys come up with...90% of conservatives in Congress are GOPe...So yes, Trump is running against you guys and there's a lot of us who support him...

“People understand that the attempt at Nation Building was a mistake”

Either you are FOR the whole thing or you are on the side of Code Pink, period.

No cherry picking. National building was part of the plan, and part of what was used to sell it.

Like I said, have fun when Cruz actually has to give his views because either way he loses.

That’s why he is hiding behind bloggers and AM talk radio yet again.

Trump Praises a Communist: A New York (Values) State of Mind...

“I think he’s a smart guy that knows what’s going on really big league and I think he is not going to want to destroy New York,” Trump said. “I think he is going to want to make New York great.”

http://joeforamerica.com/2016/01/trump-praises-communist-new-york-state-mind/

That same evening, Trump excoriated then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as “very sad.” Trump also called Hugo Chavez, then president of Venezuela,” a lot smarter than” Bush. “Chavez is obviously very cunning,” Trump explained in 2007. “I mean, beating our president at every step of the game.”

On Nov. 6, 2008, Trump praised President Barack Obama as “inspiring in every way” and declared that the then-newly-elected Democrat “cannot do worse than Bush.”

Sowell is a lifelong conservative who doesn't abandon his values the moment some smooth-talking lover-boy whispers sweet nothings in his ear.

Trump's positions are 'sweet nothings' to you guys??? You Bush supporters are coming out of the woodwork lately...

“Trump ain’t in the senate.. that was the point.. but you knew that”

Oh I get it. If Cruz doesn’t have any Senate endorsements, it’s a knock on Cruz. If Trump doesn’t have any, that looks good for him. Thank you for the double standard.

I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and support Planned Parenthood and not lose voters.

The problem that these guys dont get is that evangelicals are not a bloc of votes, but some catch-all term with vague boundaries.

Playing to them as your primary election strategy is absurd! You already heard Cruz supporters blow of New Hampshire because there went many of them there. They didn’t see that Cruz’s appeal wasn’t broad enough, just that the people there didn’t fit their target group.

Like what is he going to do in the general election? Just campaign in states with evangelicals in it?

Cruz isn’t fighting yesterdays wars. Indeed he has rejected the notion of nation building go in kill the bad guys go home don’t fight guerrilla wars. It’s on his website and articles have been written about his Jacksonian foreign affairs as opposed to the Wilsonian approach of the neo cons.

Trump is unaware of the differences just like he didn’t know what the nuclear triad was in a debate.

Earlier this month, Trump clarified his desire to run for president as a GOP candidate. He noted that he had been “part of the establishment” until an abrupt departure in June 2015.
