Sowell makes his presidential endorsement
The American Thinker ^ | February 16, 2016 | Thomas Lifson

There are very, very few people whose endorsement of a candidate matters to me, and among them Thomas Sowell may be at the top of the list. Thus, when he speaks his mind, I listen carefully.

I hate to see that damned sarcasm tag just for the sake of the few dumb asses who wouldn’t know sarcasm if it took its clothes off and did a merry jig in front of their faces. It ruins the effect.

I agree with Dr. Sowell. Of the available choices, and accepting that every vote is (to some extent) for a pig in a poke, I prefer Cruz.

Did you vote for McCain? I did, because I knew Obama would be a disaster, which is why Sowell backed McCain. McCain was not my first choice, in fact none of my first choices have I ever been able to vote for except Reagan’s second term. I am personally supporting Cruz, but I think he is going down.

I agree. To be truly effective, the best sarcasm should leave you wondering for a second or two. The sarcastic phrase should be a good imitation of the actual phrase people use. Then you should realize the sarcasm illustrates the stupidity of the commonly used phrase.

The sarcasm tag is like having to say, “here is the punch line” every time you tell a joke.

You obviously don’t know Sowell’s work, he is no Keynesian. Free Trade has nothing to do with being a Keynesian. I am personally against most of the trade barriers coming down and I know Thomas Sowell is a free trader, so I disagree with him on that.

I like many things that Trump has done. He has helped to frame the discussion. He has refused to bow to political correctness and he has endured attack after attack from the MSM without apologizing or giving in.

However, Cruz has a consistent track record and has been willing to stand up for principles even when attacked by the media and those in the Republican Party.

Trump has contributed greatly to the public debate. Cruz would probably be a more steadfast and reliable president.

I continue to like both Trump and Cruz.

I haven't voted FOR anyone since Reagan. Since Reagan, I've voted AGAINST Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, and Obama, and in the next election I'll vote AGAINST (probably) Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

Trump is a populist. It is troublesome to know core fundamental beliefs, other than I will do whatever seems in vogue at the present time by most people.

To tell the truth, I wasn’t aware of the distinction. But I was using in it the contemporary sense. Lots of words undergo a metamorphosis in the course of their existence. Consider the word “virtue.” I once heard a linguist say, “Isn’t it amazing that a word which once meant “the manhood of man” now means “the chastity of woman.”

With the high volume of ridiculously stupid and off-the-wall comments being made on this site over the past few months or so, you really need to make it clear that you're joking or being sarc. Because, as I said earlier, I've seen comments here recently that months ago I would have thought surely were attempts at sarcasm, only for them to turn out to be dead serious. And things only seem to be getting worse. Sure it take away from the joke aspect. But better that than folks getting a false impression about you (anyone), especially in this highly charged election year climate.

Frankly, I’m sick of politicians and intellectuals.. Their catchy little quotes always sound good in theory.. but do they have a track record of actually getting things done and fixing the mess?

I’m for the plain-spoken, common sense man who has a YUGE passion for America and a history of accomplishments done in record time and under budget..

I’m for Donald Trump!

I think the only true conservative in their eyes is Trump. I see him more as a populist (still better than any dem.)

Agree. Trump's more like Richard Nixon, who (citing Garry Wills here from his book 40 years ago, Nixon Agonistes) was something of an insurgent himself in the 40's, going to war with the secular consensus of Roosevelt-worship and New Dealing and Me-Too'ism among national Republicans, who were no longer National Greatness Republicans like McKinley and Roosevelt (who came up that way, building the Great White Fleet), and oh btw George W. Bush (43), who was McKinleyite to the core, but in the 30's had become political survivalists, going along with the New Deal to get along: "Me too! Me too!"

Nixon ran for office on different credentials: Hard work and Anticommunism mixed with consumerism (his public talks with Nikita Khruschev about the benefits of capitalism). He relentlessly pursued Communists, earning him the lasting hatred of the Communist-infiltrated press (especially the Old Grey Whore, where the infamous Stalinist singer Walter Duranty wrote prolefeed). This eventually carried him to the White House on the public revulsion against the KGB-inspired, Chicago-Seven/New Left-led rioting during the Chicago convention.

Trump is a 60's liberal, which is what Nixon was in parts: Tricky Dick was a liberal Me-Too'er (remember his voluntary political association with the Eisenhower candidacy, which was a GOP-e project) plus anticommunism. He never tried to invade or change any of the FDR social programs which even then would predictably ruin our finances, he never challenged 'Rat conscription of the minority communities until his embrace, in office, of gerrymandering the black vote to prevent the 'Rats from taking even more congressional districts than they would when electing such obnoxious race-baiters as Carrie Meeks, John Lewis, Maxine Waters, and Sheila Jackson Lee.

So if Trump gets in, I think we can expect Nixon Redux, only with more zing behind the Enemies List: this time, he sends a Predator if you get on the list.

I've read several of Sowell's books: his personal memoir: A Personal Odyssey, Basic Economics (2 editions of the 3 out there I think), A Conflict of Visions, The Vision of the Anointed, Late Talking Children, The Quest for Cosmic Justice. I read every column that he puts out, and have for twenty years. He obviously is not Keynesian, quite the contrary, but he is a doctrinaire free trader, to the exclusion of any whiff of tariffs at all by the USA.

Read my post. I blamed our lack of jobs and manufacturing on Sowell for that reason. I did not blame him for being Keynesian and thereby debasing our currency.
