WOW! If People Don't Understand Eminent Domain Abuse, They Will Now
Ted Cruz Goes Bare-Knuckled Against Donald Trump on Eminent Domain Abuse -- "A Pattern of Sleaze Stretching Back Decades"
They say the political gloves are about to come off in South Carolina, whose primary on February 20 and which is crucial to building momentum for the upcoming Super Tuesday or "SEC Primary" states on March 1.
"They" are correct, as one of the most brutal ads of the political campaign, thus far, has just been released by the Ted Cruz presidential campaign, an ad that CNN reports will be a "six-figure ad buy," running on TV in South Carolina next week.
The scathing campaign ad hits Donald Trump hard in the area of cronyism, buying favoritism from politicians, and for abusing the constitutional principle of eminent domain for private gain.
Moreover, the ad powerfully and directly explains eminent domain by using the example of Vera Coking, an elderly woman whose house Trump wanted to destroy, using the power of big government, so that the bombastic billionaire could build a limousine parking lot for one of his casinos.
Trump's abuse of eminent domain wasn't eminent domain at all, the ad contends, nor was it used for "public" use, as is required in the U.S. Constitution, but instead was an attempt to line Trump's own pockets.
"Vera Coking's home was all she had left but it stood in Donald Trump's way and the limousine parking lot he wanted for his casino," the narrator in the Ted Cruz-approved ad says. "To him, she was a nobody."
The ad shows an exchange between free market advocate John Stossel and Trump discussing the situation during an interview at the time:
JOHN STOSSEL: "You're bullying these people out because..."
DONALD TRUMP: "Excuse me. This is a government case. This not Donald Trump."
STOSSEL: "Yes it's Donald Trump. It's you and your cronies in government working together."
"I offered her a lot of money out of this -- my heart," Trump then told Stossel in the ad.
"Heart? He doesn't have no heart, that man." ~ Vera Coking in describing Donald Trump
"Trump bankrolled politicians to steamroll the little guy -- a pattern of sleaze stretching back decades," the ad contends. "Trump uses power for personal gain. Imagine the damage he could as president."
Donald Trump is correct in that eminent domain is in the Constitution, and is authorized for "public use," like highways, public buildings, national defense readiness, etc. That our Founding Fathers had "casinos" in mind is absurd and he knows it.
The ad is especially difficult to refute considering Trump's well-known statements, bragging that he has bought off politicians for personal favors.
So, your conglomeration of bad unfortunate pics of a candidate is supposed to say what?
Is that supposed to change minds?
Are you so vapid and recluse of intelligent argument or is it your pick is not worthy or void of positive reinforcement?
Posting crap like that actually instills resolve against your candidate, not endearment.
Sad, FR was once a great place for meaningful debate, posts like your have gone a long way to destroy that.
And I am a Cruz and or Trump supporter.
Silly faces are silly faces.
Yukking it up with Slick Willy and the Hildebeeste is another matter entirely.
Bought politicians and the crony capitalists who buy them are equally sleazy and corrupt.
First of all, you don’t need eminent domain to build the pipeline. The Koch brothers have built a lot of them without ever using eminent domain. You just route and re-route.
Second, energy — the free flow of oil at market prices — is related to national security. If the supply is too small, the price goes too high and the hostile Middle Eastern Islamofascist regimes have us over a barrel, so to speak.
So it’s a completely different thing from what Trump did.
The answer to that is no, it’s not public use and even Jeb Bush came out against using eminent domain to build a sports stadium.
And suddenly the establishment Republicans repeating the new buzz line, "He's not conservative".
For those paying attention, the term "Conservative" has clearly become the new insider buzz word attempting to discredit Trump.
As if the D.C. career politician candidates have been a "conservatives" for the past 35+ years. No one capable of critical thought is buying it.
I don’t click on unknown links but thanks.
Well, that’s great that Jeb Bush is against Eminent Domain for sports arenas. He’s a real authority on Eminent Domain, having used it to muscle a disabled veteran off of his land to create a frog sanctuary or some such nonsense.

If Trump is not President America is finished. Any idiot can see that the established politicians are talking points and will never do a damn thing to save our butts. They have done nothing to stop the King Obama, the communists black Muslim terrorists and still are doing nothing. The GOP is a joke. The communists Democrats have taken over America. Wake up Americans. This is the last chance.
Very cool video! Thanks!
Haha! The GOP Congress isn’t “Conservative” by any stretch of the imagination.
They fully funded Obamacare and Planned Parenthood for crying out loud!
The phrase is “public use” not “public purpose”. Use was chosen instead of purpose so that it is broad enough to encompass anything the government decides to use the property for.
I can’t stop laughing at this and now this is all I’m going to think of in these 24/7 Trump bashfest threads. :D
This is such an important subject. Sheesh ,is this all they have.
This crap won’t work.
~~Go Trump Go~~~~Go Trump Go~~~~Go Trump Go~~~~Go Trump Go~~
The orginal attempt to buy her house failed and that purchaser started his casino in the 1970s.
It wasn't completed due to lack of funds so it was later that Trump tried to get the property in 1993
with the help of some gov't agency out of Alantic City. The attempt failed and life went on.
Coking moved to CA in 2010. Attempts to sell it for $5 million and downward failed until
it was purchased for a little around $583,000 in 2014 by Carl Ichan.
> Another day, another nasty attack by Cruz.
The emminent domain attack is pretty a run of the mill thing to throw against the wall in a political campaign. Actually talks about an issue before the voters. Reasonable people can disagree over the framing, but still, it run of the mill.
IMHO, “nasty” attacks are _personal_ attacks and/or going after the family of the candidate.
They clearly wasted 10 or 20 or 30 seconds on Trump’s so called buying of politicians. The issue has already failed.
