The occupation of Oregon's Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters finally ended - tragically, with Robert "LaVoy" Finnicum killed by police and other protesters arrested.
Unlike in Eastern states, where federal lands total as little as 0.3% (New York), almost 53% of Oregon and 72% of Harney County (where the Hammonds live) is controlled by the federal government. It also administers and controls 30% (Montana) to 85% (Nevada) of all lands in 11 other Western states.
The Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and other federal agencies increasingly interpret laws and enforce regulations to restrict, prohibit and eliminate timber, energy and mineral development, access to water, and other economic and motorized activities.
They also exercise effective control over extensive state and private lands near or amid these government holdings.
This results in frustration and conflicts for ranchers and millions of other people who have valid, existing, protected rights to lands and resources, in the form of âappurtenancesâ conveyed by deed or will from the first settler or miner to hold title.
Those forage, water, timber and mineral rights, improvements, easements and rights of way are constitutionally protected and preserved in every federal land law enacted by Congress. They cannot be summarily taken away - though federal agencies increasingly try to do so.
It's not just families that are hurt. Entire communities, counties and states are impacted, as their economic base is steadily eroded by agencies that gradually, systematically close off access, take water and forage rights, ban economic uses, charge higher fees for remaining rights, force landowners into yearslong courtroom battles, and refuse to pay court-ordered compensation for attorney fees and lost income.

The only constitutional permission I know of for the feds to acquire land on state property is stated in Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 of the US Constitution:
"Congress shall have the power...to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the State in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-yards, and other needful buildings"
You've also got the BIG problem of the unconstitutional Administrative State and departments like the BLM, both unconstitutional and unaccountable in its scope and overreach.
It’s well past time for THE PEOPLE of the West to establish new governments that will ignore FedZilla and refuse to recognize its authority on SOVEREIGN state territory. Such a change needs to happen one county at a time, with constitutional sheriffs who will not tolerate unconstitutional activity.
who do you think owns White House / Congress / State / BLM / Interior / EPA / DOJ
URANIUM ONE AND THE LIKE....
we the people aint squat.....
the Constitution is toilet paper
the Bill of Rights are a joke
we live in the USSA
America is gone.......
Having had the family farm spilt in half and that portion taken by the NPS.
I know to well that the federal government are not good neighbors to have.
Ping.
“The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.”
To use Nevada as an example, the land in Nevada territory was land of the United States. When Nevada was granted statehood, only a portion of the land was designated to pass to the state, the rest was retained by the federal government. And if the land designated for transfer wasn’t available when it was finally surveyed, then that land didn’t pass. I think the Act can be found in 13 United States Statutes at Large (1864) starting at page 30.
Sorry, correction.
1 dead, 2 in prison, 68 jailed.
Twice in the past few years we’ve had to call the sheriff’s department to chase off NPS who were trying to steal our tagged bison claiming that they thought our bison with the bright yellow ear tags “had wandered off” of Yellowstone.
We now have signs posted on every tenth fence post around the ranch that rustlers will be shot without warning.
You are absolutely correct. I think there were French mercenaries mixed in with the FBI or BLM also, and CIA infiltrators to create a “crisis”. All this needs to be investigated and REPORTED.
The problem is the MSM which hides the truth and puts out all the disinformation to vilify the farmers, to keep us from unifying against this REAL TYRANNY and KILLING of patriots by our unconstitutional government..
So disgusting.
Those few needed to grow food will be allowed to stay in rural areas. The rest will be re-located to urban areas either through a legislative death of a 1000 small cuts or forcefully.
Let me summarize the how: illegally!
Our friendly park rangers have become a para military force and a rather totalitarian one at that.
Example is how they acted during the last government shutdown in the Olympic National Forest and Park. Totally irrational and with out due process.
The key is .. “Other needful buildings,” which obviously presumes that the federal leviathan will ONLY ACQUIRE LAND THAT IT MUST HAVE TO FULFILL ITS CONSTITUTIONAL DUTIES. Any other acquisitions should be seen as HOSTILE TO THE STATES. In fact, that is exactly what has materialized, proving the wisdom of the Framers.
Yep. Gotta cousin that lives in the Bitter Root Mountain rage of Montana....they absolutely loathe the feral gubbamint up there.
Compared to the Civil War, a nothingburger. Compared to the Revolutionary War, a pittance. Compared to WW II, a blip on the radar. If we look at the cold hard facts we are forced to admit that the Colonists had much more freedom and fewer taxes than “modern Americans.” So I ask, “Was it worth it in the end?” Long live King George.
The problem is, even the most Constitutional Sheriff I've seen is hindered by the fact that, if he or she stands up to the feds, they immediately risk millions of $$$ in fed grants to their county for cool stuff like militarized toys and drone programs. Those FedGov $$$'s will likely go away when the Sheriff stands up to them. Why do you think that little sh!tsucker in Burns County bent over for the Feds and licked their jackboots?
We may think we're a free country, but not really. We cannot even move about anonymously from point A to point B without being recorded multiple times. They have their hands in everything. From light bulbs to gasoline, from investments to deposits, from what you drive to how you warsh your clothes. Everything...and it's not just the federals either.
Federal, state, county, municipal governments have us OVER lawed, over regulated. Well...one exception I can think of, border jumpers.
Up to 68 jailed now??? Does that include Oath Keepers from the 2014 standoff @ Bunker Hill? Or were those 68 arrests all from the oregon standoff?
