Pope spokesman clarifies Trump comment

A spokesperson for Pope Francis clarified the pontiff's criticism of Donald Trump's plan to build a border wall, saying that the remark wasn't "a personal attack."

"The Pope said what we already know, if we followed his teaching and positions: we shouldn't build walls, but bridges," the spokesperson said in a statement, according to CNBC. "It's his generic view, coherent with the nature of solidarity from the gospel."

"This wasn't, in any way, a personal attack or an indication on who to vote for," the spokesperson continued. "The Pope has clearly said he didn't want to get involved in the electoral campaign in the US and also said that he said what he said on the basis of what he was told [about Trump], hence giving him the benefit of the doubt."

This is kind of like trying to close the barn door once the barn and all the horses are a pile of cinder.

I love it when our communist pope has to clarify a statement that shouldn’t have been made it the first place.

Pastor Robert Jeffress said earlier that the Pope would clarify and backtrack.

Now he needs to apologize to Trump for criticizing his faith.

The Pope’s statement is a perfect example of ‘reality deficit’.

The Pope is not an idiot but a committed cunning leftist who has the side job of Pope. He was in Cuba today hugging Fidel.

Notice that this Pope NEVER criticizes Castro or his botched up homeland of Argentina. He saves his venom for the most generous country in the world, one that takes in 70 percent of the world’s refugees and unlike Argentina, the vast majority of the “refugees” weren’t on the run from international justice. Never a critical word for Mexico, doesn’t say much if anything about the spread of radical Islam or the slaughter of Christians in Africa and the Middle East because of their faith. No, he reserves his mouth for the US and its people then backtracks after he’s done his damage. He is the direct opposite of a remarkable religious leader like Pope John Paul II or a very fine and decent man like John Paul 1 or Pope Benedict. Pope Francis is neither.

Sure...the Pope specifically referring to Trump as “not a Christian,” is not meant to influence the vote.

Right.

That’s just rubbish and poppycock...and everyone knows it.

The fact is, if the Pope is serious about “walls” not being Christian, he can start by tearing down the physical wall that surrounds the Vatican. At least then we would be able to judge the sincerity of his words by his actions.

But that still would not mean that the US should not take actions, like the border fence, to control illegal immigration into the country.

Doing that is not unchristian...it is the fulfilling of the responsibilities as an elected official to uphold and sustain the law.
