If Cruz can’t win a bunch of the Super Tuesday races, he needs to drop out so Rubio can take Trump on one-on-one, where he’ll clean his clock. Have you seen the polling on this? Rubio beats Trump by 16 points head-to-head. Problem is he, Kasich, Cruz and Carson are splitting the anti-Trust-Fund-Donnie vote.

That’s gotta stop pronto or we’ll be stuck with a guy in Trump who’ll probably get beat by 20 points in the general election.

Jeb is dropping out because the party elites have decided he can't win, and they are desperately trying to change the mix. They are thinking that Jeb’s votes will go to Rubio. The problem for them, IMHO, is most Cruz and Trump voters do not like the party status quo, and they represent more than 50% of the voters. Further, the more the party elite try to circumvent the voters and suppress the rebellion, the more followers the rebellion will have.

You may be right, but things are so fluid at this point that I wouldn't bet on it. If Rubio is seen as the candidate of the party ‘leadership’ there will be a lot of backlash against him. There are a lot of disillusioned people out there, and this makes the race very unpredictable.

TX is an open primary as are many other states, but given how closely contested the D race is this year, open vs. closed primaries probably won’t be as big an issue as in previous years. Democrats are going to be much more interested in supporting the D candidate of their choice than trying to play games with the R race.
