ROME (AP) - Italy's prime minister says he's rooting for Hillary Clinton to be elected president of the United States.
Matteo Renzi said Monday that as a citizen and leader of Italy's Democratic party, "in all respect for the great American democracy, I'm rooting for Hillary Clinton."
However, he said that speaking as premier, his government, long a staunch U.S. ally, will work with whoever wins.
Renzi had been asked by a reporter if he could work with Donald Trump, should the business magnate who's campaigning for the Republican nomination, become president.
Renzi also professed admiration for Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, as well as the current U.S. president, Barack Obama.

Renzi is a democrat alright.
Mussolini would have loved the Clintons.
And we wonder Europe is turning into the next caliphate.
“Italy’s Renzi: I’m rooting for Hillary Clinton”
I just checked — Nope, still don’t give a “F” what Renzi thinks about American politics — How much has this POS paid in American taxes, zero...that’s what I thought, “Hey Renzi, how about a nice steaming cup of STFU!!!”
Every European I’ve ever discussed politics with always mentions how impressed they are with Hillary. I blame it on their fawning media.
Socialists love other Socialists. They hate America, even though they were saved multiple times by the US.
Screw Europe.
Renzi Rikes Rapists
Idiot Italian socialist
...or maybe our corrupt, fawning media....
I hope Mr. Trump takes note
I expected all of America’s enemies to root for Clinton, but I didn’t expect Italy’s leader to be among our enemies.
Sounds like one of the successful bidders for access to the SOS’s private servers, and now hoping to cash in on his “investment.”
Useless leftist idiot rooting for another useless leftist idiot.
Personally, I am rooting for a new Italian Prime Minister and, with the average Italian government since World War II seeming to last about three weeks, I will get my way soon enough.
