Nevada caucus results: Trump poised for big night

This state that has long embraced its reputation as the Wild West of politics is expected to embrace anti-establishment candidate Donald Trump in a blowout in the Nevada Republican caucuses on Tuesday night.

In a state where only 33,000 of the state's 400,000 GOP voters turned out to caucus in 2012 -- a mere 7% -- the campaigns of Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and one-time candidate Jeb Bush got organized early, snapping up talented operatives and key endorsements, while beginning caucus trainings last fall in the hopes that a strong organization could overcome Trump's momentum.

But Trump appears to have steamrolled through all of that, dominating not just Nevada's unreliable polls, but capturing the excitement and buzz in the race with his visits here.

In interviews with dozens of Republican voters across the state over the last week, many said without hesitation that they were standing firmly with Trump and had given little thought to the other Republican candidates.

I’d heard that Rush said last week, “Don’t let this guy get near 50%” but didn’t know what it meant. Then I saw today that 50% or higher get all delegates. Below is proportional.

From the article:

The more traditional campaigns of Cruz and Rubio, said longtime Nevada political analyst Jon Ralston, "are very frustrated by what everyone's frustrated by: you can't talk any sense into the Trump voters; they can't turn them."

It's perfect. It sums up the whole problem. If you're not in line with the establishment view, that just means no one can "talk sense into you."

How patronizing. We've been taken advantage of too damn long.

So, KMA, Mr. Jon Ralston.

If Trump can't get a majority in a state with legalized gambling and legalized prostitution, he probably ought to pack it in.

So, what would that mean about Cruz if he should win?

I don’t perceive Cruz as being “oily” but we’re each entitled to our opinions. However, I was looking for something more specific, like how he’s oily? I lean Trump but would vote for Cruz, too.

Hard to say. If no fraud then yes it will happen but I wouldn’t put a bit of trust in the Nevada Republican party. Oh, Rubio is the new fair haired boy since Bush dropped out.

I hear a lot of preachers like to take a trip to Las Vegas. We all trust preachers, right?

Hey...they don't gamble (that would be a sin)...but they like the gurrls.

How come you know so much about Nevada?

It would mean that even in Nevada, people are getting sick of Trump’s infantile shtick.

Read this.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/wellness/a-neurologist-has-tried-to-pinpoint-what-bugs-him-about-ted-cruz’s-face/ar-BBpg4zI

I had the same feelings/ judgments about Cruz and couldn’t figure out what it was.
Then I saw this article and it clicked. As a teacher I have always been very attuned to body language.....good way to tell if a child is lying. And that’s exactly what bugged me about Cruz. I could tell he wasn’t trustworthy, but hadn’t put two and two together.

Hey...this Cruz guy...there’s something wrong with this guy...something sick.

He's been involved in government for over 20 years.

Saw that piece a few days ago.

I was a Cruz guy at the beginning.

But something about him pushed me away.

Might be his facial expression...might just be his character.

I am an evangelical...but I don't trust Bible thumpers.

And Cruz is a Bible thumper.

It is fairly well known that Nevada is notorious for legalized gambling and legalized prostitution. It is also well known that Donald Trump has made a fortune on enabling people to gamble and that he is an admitted, proud, serial adulterer.

To trump supporters Cruz is brighter and more informed so that makes trump look stupid, which they change into bullying and threatening.

Yet since mid-summer I have looked at the demos, when available, of every poll.

They all have one thing in common: Trump carries the most educated demos. If it breaks down into “college,” “some college” and “post-college” Trump carries the first two every time, and once in a while Rubio takes the third. Cruz usually carries “ no college” if he carries any demo.

When there is no education demo but they give income, I use that as a proxy, and Trump ALWAYS takes the “$45,000-65,000” and “over $65,000” demos.

No one is interested in electing a saint or a Pope.

I am interested in electing a social and constitutional conservative. That is definitely not Trump.

Well, since Cruz couldn’t get the evangelicals in SC, perhaps he can get the hookers and gamblers votes here.
