(HOUSTON) - The bond a man and his best friend shared was put on full display in Houston when a loyal dog waited patiently for weeks for his owner to come home after he was killed while working at a convenience store. Neighbors saw the German Shepherd waiting at the front gate to the apartment complex where he lived with his owner, 54-year-old Hatem Abuharbid, who was killed during a robbery on Feb. 7.
"You could just tell that he was a lost dog," neighbor Cassandra Eubanks, who lives nearby, told ABC owned station KTRK-TV in Houston.
"He would follow the cars and when he would realize that it was not his owner's car, he would just stand there and look helpless," Eubanks added.
Abuharbid was shot in the thigh when two men robbed the Kay-B convenience store where he worked in Houston, police said in a press release. The bullet pierced an artery in his leg and Abuharbid later died at the hospital.

Doesn't look like a German Shepherd to me. Is that the dog, or is that a stock photo?

Thank God that loyal dog received help. I really believe that dogs are just about God’s finest creation.

I really believe that dogs are just about Godâs finest creation. Some of them are. It must be why Muslims hate them.

In before someone comes along and trashes this thread!
Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.

Good point. They don’t treat them very well, which wouldn’t dispose their dogs to be all that they could be.

I divorced my second wife and she took her dog (she got him after we were married) with her. The dog waited by the door for me for weeks after she moved out, he was depressed and only was happy when I came over. After three weeks she brought the dog to me and said “here is your dog, I love him but he is only happy with you, will you keep him?” For some reason all dogs in my family have always liked me best, not sure what that means.

I say “dogs like me best” because they have good judgement of character. Current wife says it is because of the way I smell, whatever that means. Her dog also liked me best.

I saw this on the news (I live near Houston), it was a sad story, but it looks like there will be a happy ending.
Looked more like a German Shepherd on TV than it does on this photo.
