Donald J. Trumpâs Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach describes itself as âone of the most highly regarded private clubs in the world,â and it is not just the very-well-to-do who want to get in.
Since 2010, nearly 300 United States residents have applied or been referred for jobs as waiters, waitresses, cooks and housekeepers there. But according to federal records, only 17 have been hired.
In all but a handful of cases, Mar-a-Lago sought to fill the jobs with hundreds of foreign guest workers from Romania and other countries.
In his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump has stoked his crowds by promising to bring back jobs that have been snatched by illegal immigrants or outsourced by corporations, and voters worried about immigration have been his strongest backers.
But he has also pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor, while hundreds of domestic applicants failed to get the same jobs.
The visas are issued through one of a handful of legal and often-debated programs through which employers can temporarily hire foreign workers when American labor is not available. As part of its applications for the visas submitted to the Labor Department, Mr. Trumpâs Mar-a-Lago attested that in the vast majority of cases it was unable to fill the positions with American workers, or, as he told MSNBCâs âMorning Joeâ in September, âgetting help in Palm Beach during the season is almost impossible.â
Asked why his club must seek so many foreign workers when Americans have applied for the same positions, Mr. Trump said in a telephone interview from Mar-a-Lago this month: âThe only reason they wouldnât get a callback is that they werenât qualified, for some reason.â

Hires only 17 of 300 U.S. citizen applicants or referrals.
Applies for over 500 H-2B visas for foreign workers.
H-2B visas are employer-sponsored visas. It takes work and money to identify, sponsor, and get H-2B visa for these foreign workers.
So here is the question. If Trump had put the same energy, effort, and money (Trump is very, very rich, you know) into recruiting (not sitting back and waiting for referrals from the UE office), but actually putting on job fairs, etc. for AMERICANS, instead of the energy and effort into identifying, recruiting, sponsoring, and applying for H-2B visas for foreigners, maybe his American numbers would be higher.
I think he got Ivanka and Melanija the same way.
Since he owned it since 1985 this is a great hit piece:-) Man with 126 rooms and 20 acres I wonder how many employees it needs. And 500 visas over 6 years, how longs a work visa last? So there must be some rotation, no? Boy the establishment is getting so desperate! But not to worry as they have a plan!!!
Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican, sent the letter to fellow Republicans Wednesday evening. Heâs asking would-be signers to back his push to rally the establishment around either the Florida or Texas senator in an effort to defeat Donald Trump, the current frontrunner for the GOP nomination.
The letter argues that one candidate should continue on in the presidential race while the other is named a vice presidential candidate.
So you support the Chamber of Commerce’s advocacy of open borders to allow more low wage workers to enter the country? After all they are just standing up for their members who desire cheap labor so they can maximize profits. You know a businessman has to do what’s best for his bottom line as you say.
Maybe they are these: A-3 and G-5 domestic staff members: Up to three years. You can apply for extensions in two-year increments.
These aren't immigrants. They are over here on a work visa.
Didn’t say I supported ‘open borders’.
What I was saying is that if the cost of doing business in the US weren’t so high, I believe employers would be more inclined to hire Americans.
Cost of doing business is the same excuse that the open border people use to make their case. Bottom line Trumps talks about American jobs, but then actively recruits cheaper foreign works when it is his pocketbook being impacted. The epitome of a hypocrite.
Are you THAT sold out for Mr. Donald J. “Liar” Trump that you do not see the hypocrisy here?
Are you that incapable of critical thinking to see what he is doing here...?
>>I donât blame a businessperson for doing what they need to do to remain in business.
Evidently Der Trumpenflipper’s Communist Chinese slave keeping bidness partners agree!

Three new homes built in my neighborhood recently. Most workers appear to be young Mexicans and older American men. I don’t think young American guys want to do construction.
