“Those who do politics for a living, some of them quite brilliant . . . “

Objection, your Honor! Speaker implies attributes without producing facts.

I agree that this article transcends Trump - anyone with money (i.e., independence from the GOPe) could have pulled off what Trump has done, and many with more credibility.

But I’m not sure all politics is racial was always the case, but it certainly does seem that way now.

If you haven’t read this article. It’s actually pretty decent. Link at post 7.

You underestimate their intelligence AT YOUR OWN PERIL. We fought Bush-43 TOOTH AND NAIL over Amnesty in 2005/2006, and what did we get in 2008 and 2012 - candidates that LOVED AMNESTY.

Like it or not, they outsmarted us.

You say anyone with money could pull this off..well, why haven’t they? Trump deserves credit and support for being the guy who stepped up.

I am not disagreeing with you, but how do you explain the diversity I’ve heard reported at a Trump rally?

Yes and no. The fact is that Obama got elected by playing the same card, claiming to be the only one who understood minorities and their miseries (even though they are actually protected, they have been taught to perceive themselves as victims). Eight years later, the situation of blacks - in everything from the murder rate to their income and employment rates - is far worse than when he started.

But blacks are still fanatically loyal to Obama simply because of the image created for him by the media handlers and because they had committed themselves not to somebody with a plan, but to this image, the Great Deliverer.

Trump , of course, comes from the protected class and, in fact, that is what has enabled him to get as far as he has (his own money and connections and his resulting impunity from the effects of everything from his shady business deals to his corrupt political connections to his trashy sexual morality). I see posters all the time defending Trump by saying that he has all this money so he must be doing something right...as if they think he is somehow going to decide to share it with them at some point.

Sadly, what they don’t see is that Trump has no use for them and once he has gotten what he wants, he won’t even have to pretend. The way he jeers at them now and boasts of their fanatical loyalty to his person (not his program, since he doesn’t have any) is cruel and cynical. He doesn’t plan to protect anybody from anything but will just do whatever is most advantageous for him.

There’s nothing new about this. Eight years of Obama and a powerful, remote internationalist government, combined with a stagnant, controlled economy, have definitely left a lot of people justifiably angry and resentful. The disturbing thing is that people aren’t looking for a realistic solution (in my opinion, it’s all about reducing the government and growing the economy) but for a savior.

People have always wanted to believe in the man on the white horse and they have always been disappointed and things have always ended worse for them than before.

Wonderful comment.
Besides looking for a savior, I think people desperately want to believe that they are a part of something important. That they MATTER. As a Christian, I know that meaning and purpose can only be found in Christ. Believing in any man, even Trump, can only lead to despair.

Control of the party is much different from brilliance. I have watched delagates sent to national elections for many election cycles and the party people always win. How so? Becasuse there are not enough committed people willing to take the time to change things. Control of the strings always trumps the idealism of the few.

The middle class will need to lose everything before enough push can be sustained for any meaningful change.

My point about the elites mindset concerning racism is not that they are correct but that they are just motivated by the belief.

Defending oneself against charges of racism as have been hurled against Republicans all of my life places one at such a disadvantage that it is almost impossible to prevail in an election, to win an argument argument.

Think of trying to convince a Trump supporter that their man is unworthy of their trust, you simply get nowhere with facts or logic.

Ms. Noonan seems to be partially getting it, after a long while. One of the most telling and accurate lines:

“Social philosophers are always saying the underclass must re-moralize. Maybe it is the overclass that must re-moralize.”

A crucial point she misses, probably because she has a blind spot for it, is that many of the ‘protected’ of which she writes are just not that bright, and that's why they don't get it.

And you can get that man in either secular or religious flavor.

You probs want to read that. “And a country really can’t continue this way.”

She’s got her credibility back now, that’s for sure.

As repulsive as they are, it is insanity to think that Carville or Axelrod or Plouffe aren’t brilliant at their jobs. Look what they’ve taken from us all.

I agree with what Noonan said. And I agree with EEE that Noonan has no credibility. She lost that when she shilled for Obama for six years.

The protected make public policy. The unprotected live in it.... They’re insulated from many of the effects of their own decisions.

A most excellent article. She gets it!

“You say anyone with money could pull this off..well, why haven’t they? Trump deserves credit and support for being the guy who stepped up.”

ABSOLUTELY! The others are scared to death of the process - and it’s obvious why. Even Trump haters have to ADMIRE the fact that he could have just as easily bought an island in Tahiti or spend his last years in New Zealand, rather than put himself and his family through this.

And sorry...there are PLENTY OF BILLIONAIRES with huge egos...the difference is that Trump STEPPED up and may just manage to keep this country from ending up like Europe is now - and don’t for a minute think the GOP wasn’t taking us right there.
