Inside the Republican Party’s Desperate Mission to Stop Donald Trump
New York Times ^ | FEBRUARY 27, 2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS, MAGGIE HABERMAN and JONATHAN MARTIN

“There’s this desire, verging on panic, to consolidate the field,” said Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a former supporter of Mr. Bush. “But I don’t see any movement at all.”

Mr. Rubio’s advisers were also thwarted in their efforts to secure an endorsement from Mr. Romney, whom they lobbied strenuously after the Feb. 20 South Carolina primary.

Mr. Romney had been eager to tilt the race, and even called Mr. Christie after he ended his campaign to vent about Mr. Trump and say he must be stopped. On the night of the primary, Mr. Romney was close to endorsing Mr. Rubio himself, people familiar with his deliberations said.

Yet Mr. Romney pulled back, instead telling advisers that he would take on Mr. Trump directly.

After a Tuesday night dinner with former campaign aides, during which he expressed a sense of horror at the Republican race, Mr. Romney made a blunt demand Wednesday on Fox News: Mr. Trump must release his tax returns to prove he was not concealing a “bombshell” political vulnerability.

Mr. Trump responded only with casual derision, dismissing Mr. Romney on Twitter as “one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics.”

-- LePage's endorsement is smelling more like GOPe set-up. --

I don't think it is. LePage is a political neophyte himself, and in the current presidential race, favored Christie, in part (he says) because Christie is a governor, and in part because Christie is outspoken. LePage is outspoken too. Hardly a week goes by that he doesn't step on his own crank.

The Bush family is New England royalty. They are carpetbaggers in Texas and Florida. At any rate, I'm sure LePage is grateful for Bush support over his opponents in the race for the Blaine House, but I don't think he feels he owes them. I also don't think that Trump would find a place for LePage in a Trump administration. LePage is more of a dumb but hardworking hick.

Good article, thanks. LePage was previously supporting Christy, so this endorsement makes a little more sense.

“CNN said Trump later called Carr’s show and said he was “really happy” to have the endorsements of LePage and Christie.” So Donald has taken note of it.

Should Mr. Trump clinch the presidential nomination, it would represent a rout of historic proportions for the institutional Republican Party, and could set off an internal rift unseen in either party for a half-century, since white Southerners abandoned the Democratic Party en masse during the civil rights movement.

And the GOPe isn't going to let this rout happen.

After Trump secures the nomination, they'll run an independent; Romney or Bloomberg, in a handful of key battleground states to throw the election to Hillary. They can play ball with her. She won't upset the applecart. With a textbook of "lessons learned" the establishment will be better prepared to ensure nobody like Trump ever happens again.

That's what we're up against.

Most of the RNC/GOP is owned lock, stock and barrel by The Cheap Labor Express.
They have been actively working against the wishes of the people for decades.
Enabling the illegal alien inundation while giving lip service to national security.
GWB reduced border and interior enforcement AFTER 9/11.
Kay Bailey Hutchinson defunded the Secure Fence Act with an amendment in a subsequent bill.
They will burn the party to the ground rather than let us elect a President who would enforce the laws.

They are arrogant, they are far from stupid or clueless.
They have been playing conservatives for years and years.
We have only had amnesty candidates since the last amnesty.
It wasn’t accidental.

They still think they can prevent us from electing a President who will enforce the laws and borders.

You may change your mind when he endorses Amnesty Boy.

I changed mine when he voted for TPA and the Corker bill.

You’re correct on that. It will be the last time I ever supported him if he endorses Rubio.

He was for TPA before he was against it. I was against it from beginning to end. He lost a lot of my respect on that one.

The more these GOP establishment types come out in public to deride Trump and tell everyone they're filled with "fear and dread" over a Trump nomination and/or presidency, they more people they are driving to support Trump.

The GOPe is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy for themselves. The more they complain about Trump, the higher his poll numbers go up.

They still haven't figured out that the public are the ones who "fear and dread" another same-old, same-old politician candidate getting elected who will immediately turn on their electorate and work for the democRATS once in office.

At the end of the day. It is our fault. We allowed and creates elected royality. We, for some reason trusted this royality to fix the system that benefits them. We became distracted and lazy in our thinking. Now, hopefully we are awake and ready for them to pay the piper. If, and this is a big if. If Trump wins the general and is successful we may lay witness to a political revolution purging the system.

“But I don’t see any movement at all.”

That is because they do not know what the hell to do. This is a people movement and they are supporting Trump. Any shenanigans by the GOPe and there will be hell to pay and in spades.

Yes, his TPA vote, the co-written article with Paul Ryan, and the Corker bill are also my main reasons, for not supporting him. He also plans to means test Social Security. At least he said it was on the table.

His wife is definitely NWO with her support for North American Union as a member the CFR.

“Ummm, didn’t Lepage endorse Trump yesterday?”

Ayuh. Apparently Governor Lepage saw the handwriting on the wall and decided that if you can’t beat ‘em then you should join ‘em.

Don't these people realize that's it's not Trump, per se, that they are trying to stop?

It's those who have and would vote for him.

That's who they are warring against.

But their hubris will not allow them to see it.

"That's what we're up against."

And there is nothing to stop us from exacting electoral revenge on them via the same, and other methods.

I can’t support anyone who is supported by the GOP-E and I can’t support anyone who supports them (Cruz is NOW in the category)
