I’ve seen a lot of rattlesnakes in the wild. I’ve only met two that were aggressive.
Must be a lady snake.
“Snakes wearing hats” is now A Thing.
Google it.
Some of them are amazing.
:)
“I was going to write this column about slimy, venomous reptiles...”
Anyone who knows anything about snakes knows they are NOT slimy.
They are dry, smooth and feel quite wonderful, actually.
Didn’t see any like that buddy.
Not being held like that.
But be my guest
You’re not from the Deep South obviously
You would have seen more than that as a boy growing up and would know several who’d been bit
I’ve seen hundreds and at least a half dozen bit
In a mining town I worked in Brasil.....pedro segunda in Piaui
We had dozens die after floods drove the coral snakes up...mostly children leaving their hammocks at nite to tinkle
We had to fly in antivenom from University Miami lab cause São Paulo was out
It was pitiful.....
Those rattlers, who are suffering in mute, excruciating pain, are the ones they let kids and other people “pet” and have their pictures taken with.
Did you know that the snakes are “rounded up” quite far in advance and kept starving, with no water or heat, in incredibly crowded, filthy little boxes, until the actual “fun event day”?
For a good cause, mind you.
Buddy.
I have been there a couple of times - although the last time was ~12 or 13 years ago.
Didn’t see that bud - have you been?
Rattle snake round ups are insane and cruel. They’re not fun, they’re disgusting displays of vulgar behavior. This is why I refuse to support the JayCees because they condone this horrid kind of festival.
Personally, I wouldn’t shed a tear if every person that attends and supports those horror shows got bit.
