As sociologists of religion, we are intrigued by the surprisingly large number of self-identified Christians, especially evangelicals, who support Trump and have voted for him over the more vocally religious Ted Cruz. In past elections, such voters were motivated by moral convictions around abortion, same sex-marriage, and the perceived deterioration of traditional values, and voted predictably for candidates such as Huckabee, Santorum, and most consequentially, George W. Bush.

This election, I believe people are separating religion and politics. They aren’t voting their religion, they are voting for a strong leader, one who loves America, and who will at least attempt to turn the ship of state from the jagged rocks that await, if the status quo were to continue. The only ‘religious’ consideration should be no Muslims ... their religion/Sharia is not compatible with our Constitution.

That’s their ultimate goal anyway. Because they all agree, Christians speaking out against a woman’s right to kill her baby up to 1 minute before it’s born is much worse than muslim’s blowing up innocent people and slaughtering whoever they can. Muslim extremists only do it because they are oppressed, right?
I guess they never heard of Cyrus.
I always look to atheists when I need to know what Christians are supposed to do.
Why not “10 reasons you can be a Christian and still go to hell”? Free will means you can be a Christian and make good or bad decisions!
Oh, kind of like Democrats telling Republicans how to be Republicans.
