Trump: My immigration plans aren't set in stone; Parts are "negotiable"
Politico ^ | 03/01/2016 | Hanna Trudo

Donald Trump says parts of his immigration proposals are “negotiable,” but only minor details about his border wall.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday night, Trump responded to a question about a recent claim, first introduced by BuzzFeed earlier in the day, that he told The New York Times editorial board in an off-the-record tape-recorded meeting that he may not follow through with his proposed immigration measures if he is elected president.

“The New York Times is claiming today that they had an off-the-record conversation with you in January,” Hannity started.

“We had a board meeting, it was off-the-record, suddenly they leak it, it’s all over the place,” Trump said.

“They said it’s negotiable on the wall,” Hannity said in reference to Trump’s stance on Mexican immigration and his oft-stated promise to build a border wall.

“By the way it is negotiable. Things are negotiable,” Trump said. “I’ll make the wall 2 feet shorter or something.”

Trump was quick to add that the negotiation does not include nixing the idea altogether.

“Building it? Not negotiable.”

Would it be negotiable about the 11 million?” Hannity pressed. “Maybe let some people stay if they register in a period of time?”

“I would say this,” Trump answered. “We will work out some system that’s fair, but we either have a country or we don’t. We need a border. We need a wall.”

Once Trump wins the nomination, he will veer so far to the left. It will be stunning. STUNNING! He has no core principles.

Sure, he’ll have the fence finished, and then say yes to the gang of eight bill.

I couldn’t agree with you more on the name calling. People come up with what they think are clever little nicknames for people they don’t like, and it’s annoying as hell. And that’s true whether it’s “Obummer”, “Trumpkins”, “Cruzbots”, or whatever. All equally juvenile crap that says more about the person using it than it does about the target of their ire.

They sure are, but they have bought into the GREAT WALL farce so deeply now that it is impossible to see anything different, even if it will only be a 6FT. wall, he kept his promise.

The KKK thing is not going to go away even if he is the nominee. The man is 70 years old and does not know who David Duke is? give me a break. His earpiece excuse is the same as the dog ate my homework.

I guess you are good with the Corker Bill which allowed Iran to keep their nuke stuff and we paid them $150B to boot, or maybe you are good with TPA for Obama. Cruz voted for cloture on that. I do not remember Cruz promising to give Obama more power by abrogating the treaty clause of the constitution when he ran for the Senate but he did do it. Twice. He also wanted to increase legal immigration and expand H1B visas 5x until Trump being in the race forced him to change. I expect stuff like this from Cornyn, not Cruz. I call those things a betrayal, but if you are good with them, more power to you.

Well, the last time someone proposed cutting off benefits and strengthening e-verify so they'd leave, Trump called it "mean-spirited". I don't really think " mean-spirited" and "be fair" go together.

So, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Funny thing about that interview that I saw parts of. He seemed to clearly hear every other question, Including the one regarding David Duke. Because he repeated the name.

America, meet the biggest Con taking place in America. On National TV no less.

Libby.,,,notice in here the backsliding is rampant. They bought every one of his promises/ludicrous statements and now that DT is backsliding they still find the need to cling on to something, like from build the GREAT WALL now down to he will/has to negotiate a fair deal, whatever that means. But I thought the GREAT WALL was a given, no negotiations. Something wrong here?

But then we did know he was exaggerating on all he has promised.

Trump will be the nominee,,,,,probably, but that KKK thing is not going away, Hillary now has her fodder, bank on it.

How is it the Trump fans respond to stuff like that?

Yeah, Mexico can pay for the wall over time rather than in one big payment upfront. However, I would like to see Vicente Fox be required to deliver at least one of the payment checks.

Negotiate, rofl. That word also means Maybe, maybe I will, maybe I won’t, and I can change my mind anytime I want, to voters STILL think I am telling the truth and they still LUB me, I can do no wrong, so there.

He actually said their status would be identical to anyone who enters the country legally.

You can ask an immigration lawyer what this means, but it seems right to me. What ever we are doing now for legal entrants will apply. Does this make sense?
