So far, Trump wins open primaries and Cruz wins closed … (Title Shortened)
The Washington Post ^ | 03-02-16 | By Todd Zywicki

There have been four closed elections: the Iowa caucus, the Nevada caucus, and Super Tuesday’s Oklahoma primary and Alaska caucus. Ted Cruz won three of those four closed elections.

So here’s where it potentially gets interesting. Although the media are looking forward to March 15, this Saturday (March 5) there are four Republican primaries/caucuses: Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Maine. All are closed.

RE:”I know plenty of democrats who love their country and have served in the military and want a better life for themselves and their kids. Trump has appeal to them. I hear it all the time. The reasons they give have nothing to do with liberalism”

I don't recall meeting any Dems/Rats who were NOT libs, certainly not the past 10-20 years.

The Rat party is outright Marxist and evil.
How could a rat NOT be a lib?

I pray most are like you and will support Trump. It’s us or the GOP, that simple. And Cruz is in debt up to his eyeballs for this race. Those mortgages come due Jan 20th, 2017.

Luther disregarded the Supreme Law of God, further lead God's people astray, and you hold him up as a pinnacle of righteousness?

Mat 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. ... 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

First, there are many things that Trump could do outside of immigration that would pee me off.

Second, your point is way too simplistic and easy to break.

For example, if Trump signed a bill with a wall project in it and full amnesty.

I know you would NOT be happy, but it meets your wish by the book.

Simple fact: there are not enough pure conservative votes to win the election. Period. Same for pure liberal voters. Like it or not the winning candidate has to pull from the middle. You can argue it shouldn’t be that way but it’s just math.

The fact is every single “conservative” has sold out on one issue or another. Even Cruz sold us out on immigration an demanding more H-1B foreign tech workers while Americans are unemployed.

Like your voting is at the same level as Martin Luther. Cruz isn’t a god.

I prefer Trump, I now doubt Cruz as a candidate but he’s ok. I will vote Rubio if I must.

Ha! I'm pretty much the opposite. Prefer Cruz, don't particularly like Trump, but would vote for him against any democrat. Don't think I could vote for Rubio at all.

Trump did well with the Sessions nod the other day. I'm kinda disappointed in that, but you never really know why people pull the way they do. Things are about to get really interesting in the primaries. I just wish it weren't so nasty here from partisans on both the Trump and Cruz sides.

I remember in 2008 and 2012 many of the people here on this forum were screaming bloody murder about the open primaries that were allowing Dems and “independents” to come in and pick the GOP candidate. The open primary system was implemented specifically by the GOP to allow a “moderate” (read “northeast liberal”) candidate to win over the conservative.

It seems the same thing is happening this year, but apparently the Trump supporters are all in favor. I guess as long as it’s their preferred northeast liberal, it’s okay...

Doesn’t that bode well for Trump’s ability to bring in cross over and independent votes?

They made the same argument when McCain and Romney won the nomination by relying on Dems and independents. How did that work out in the general?

No, I don’t see it. Cruz and Rubio both were attacked hard by Trump and finally stood up against it. Trump was just getting the treatment he gave.

The historical perspective, the closest I can think of, would be the years after Carter. He took us on a destructive 4 year ride, it took a principled, strong conservative to turn things around. A populist, such as Clinton was, and Trump will be, could not do it. If it goes to a brokered event, it will not go to Cruz, you can bet on that. The Rino’s truly don’t like him, and it’s because they know him, and what he stands for, and his courage in defending the constitution.

Trump is the Johnny-come-lately in the bunch and if anyone should drop out it should be him. Without him we would finally have what we have been saying for years that we want, another real conservative, constitutionalist president. With him we will either have a weak GOP establishment pawn, Rubio, or an unprincipled pawn of whichever side offers the best deal, Trump.

As a former long time resident of N Fl, your neck of the woods used to vote mostly demos. Jax and across to Pcola tended to be conservative repub. With exceptions around cross city. But generally the farther south the more demo, but sometimes the Orlando area would vote with the consistently reliable tampa repub area. Of course Miami/Palm Beach and Lauderdale areas are forever lost.

Planned parenthood and the adjective good just do not work in the same sentence. Check what little stats are available and the “good” is almost limited to those that escape being strapped to the chair.

Death far outweighs life in any such facility.

Just think - Trump would have had half as many votes in Alaska if Palin had not endorsed him. Same in Iowa LOL.
Don’t doubt Cruz. He is the only anti-establishment candidate at this point. He is the one who can win the indies. He doesn’t have the baggage Trump has the MSM is sitting on for now. He can take it to Hill.

So far, Trump has not disappointed me,

I think that is because he has not yet been in a position to do so. All he has had to do so far is talk the talk, it is much harder to have to walk the walk, as Cruz has.

Well then Rejoice Purity Choir!

The Cruz team have NOTHING to worry abut. Now that the closed Primary states are up you, and the rest of the pure hearts, will vote for the god king St Ted of Texas assuring him the Nomination without any of those nasty infidel independents or heretical Reagan Democrats messing up your purist utopia.

And then with that same “purity uber alles” dogmas you will lose the General Election badly trying to run with a fraction of your political base as your only support allowed.

National Election are not won solely by winning the votes of the choir.

It is nice to be independent But the closed Republican primaries do not allow independents to vote. That is just fine with the GOPe as the more establishment Republicans can thwart the will of the larger conservative electorate.

Here in South Dakota we have closed primaries and if you are registered independent, you can only vote in the Democrat primary.
