Amid a growing outcry from powerful corporations over Georgias religious liberty proposal, Gov. Nathan Deal issued his strongest warning yet to lawmakers who are debating controversial legislation seen as a conservative answer to the Supreme Courts same-sex marriage ruling.
In stark terms, the Republican said he would reject any measure that allows discrimination in our state in order to protect people of faith, and urged religious conservatives not to feel threatened by the ruling. He also called on his fellow Republicans pushing for the measure to take a deep breath and recognize that the world is changing around us.

What good is the gop-e?
The scriptures are changing around us. GOPe
> “the world is changing around us”
Yep. It’s a force of nature, not made man laws being shoved down our throat.
will trumpp support? he did tell Kim Davis to marry those gays cause its the law...gay marriage higher than first amendment
Amazing how Jesus and the GOP-bankrolling corporate lobbyists are of one mind on sodomy these days. And who knew that Georgians had elected a biblical scholar to lead the state?
The article notes Deal took religion classes at Mercer....a bastion of conservative religious education.....NOT!!!!
Nathan, we are in the Bible Belt. Get yer mind right, son.
The GOP soon to be under new management...
I don’t think Christians have any political recourse at all anymore. Give in to them, or pay a very heavy price.
Correction: We WERE in the bible belt. Over. Done. The whole USA is now CaliforNewYork.
I have gratuitous amounts of contempt for these so called conservative people.
In fact it’s not even man-made laws - it is illicit dictates from the Supreme Court which have no force of law but which are treated as if they do. The Obergefell ruling pertains to the plaintiffs only.
Ping
It might work better to frame these proposals in libertarian and conscience/moral terms... just saying.
That recasts the emphasis and makes the dogs in mangers look worse.
A fundamental problem, even if the place were to be utterly secular, is that these protected categories lists will grow to a ridiculous size and push to protect ridiculous things. As with BLM, they are already punishing themselves in the name of political correctness.
FWIW I expect that Donald Trump will rip these ideas up one side & down the other....
Nature will push back, too. In ways nobody expected, except a few deep diggers maybe.
I miss the Bible Belt.
Yes, he is saying that Christians must go against their conscience and be forced to put pro-homosexual messages on a cake, else it will be considered discrimination. This is where we are in America.
Better for Christians to pay the heavy price than surrender to the homonazis
I wonder if Deal will pay a price for sacrificing Christian voters tho...will he avoid visiting churches now that he’s thrown them under the bus. He’ll prolly go to the gay friendly churches now
The real bible belt is the belt of truth personally kept around your waist... Eph. 6.
Once you do that, you’ll find yourself making your way by most of the nonsense as though it weren’t even there, unless God wants the confrontation.
