Trump: I'm 'Changing' My Position on Immigrant Visas
The Hill ^ | 3/3

Posted on 03/03/2016 7:16:20 PM PST by nickcarraway

Donald Trump on Thursday night said he's changing his stance on visas for highly skilled immigrant workers.

"I’m changing it, and I’m softening the position because we need to have talented people in this country," Trump said at the Fox News GOP debate in Michigan.

Trump's comments came after debate moderator Megyn Kelly raised the issue. Kelly noted that Trump had previously opposed those visas, saying they "decimate American workers," but appeared to change his position at an earlier CNBC debate. Trump said recipients of the visas go to high-profile U.S. universities and "desperately" want to remain in the country. He said they should be allowed to stay and work in places that need high-skilled workers, such as Silicon Valley.

"We need highly-skilled people in this country," Trump said. "For that purpose, we absolutely have to be able to keep the brainpower in this country."

he’s serious about the border.

I don't believe that at all. He has given more than enough indication he is for amnesty. I think we will get worse amnesty with Trump than Hillary. Hillary will have to triangulate. Trump will just legalize all 65 million, maybe more.

I don’t like the change. Stupid on the part of Trump.

Wish he had not “softened.”

You don’t ‘train’ Albert Einstein, you don’t ‘train’ Nikola Tesla, etc.

But Trump has created confusion here where before it was clearer. He will need to clarify.

I’m not anti-Mormon , but I had to personally try to convince some evangelicals to vote for Romney ..I don’t ultimately think they did ...it’s a deep seated mistrust that will never be overcome , and after Romney’s little performance today , it’s fully cemented

Jeez, the graphic sexual innuendos meant to demean those who disagree on this sight really need to stop.

I think Trump used the word “soften” because that off the record conversation with the NY Times was on his mind...Where he probably informed them his immigration policy was in fact negotiable.

Me too, but he said he’s “changing”, “softening” when there’s been no change. He will need to clarify this.

That has always been Donsld’s strategy. He learned from McVain and Romney, for they did it in their primary runs as well.

I am against H1B visa scams however we must recognize that big brained foreigners have helped America .. Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell.. and the list goes on and on..

The problem is not making room in America for highly skilled immigrants. Silicon Valley is firing higher skilled Americans and replacing them with lower skilled foreign temp labor and knowingly accepting fraudulent documents to support their claims.

Only idiots want the dumbest immigrants. You have a problem with finding and letting the brightest into this country?

That is what Trump and Cruz said.>>>> H1B visas are used to displace natural born citizens in tech jobs. They rotate out temps from india at half the cost per person but twice the cost for someone who relies on the skill of the one displaced. the suits never see the difference because the manager and left over citizen workers make up for the H1B screw ups.

Honestly, I can understand that ... I think for anyone to say NO H1B VISAS is unrealistic and a lie.

The mass import of any level skill H1B to replace American workers though should be reputed. Amend the visa to reflect pay and benefits will be the same as the displaced worker.

But.

What will happen is the companies that want cheap labor will just offshore altogether if possible. Or move entirely. Tough situation.

“During the live thread of the Phoenix rally shortly after Trump started his campaign we were watching his rally online and most of us who were paying attention quickly saw what was coming when Trump started blasting conservatives “

Blasting conservatives? You mean the candidates you like...they are not as conservative as Trump. But, I have never heard in forty years of following him blast conservatism...he like Reagan was, is a staunch conservative in the most important things (to us) but moderate on other things. That is why he has brought so many new people to the party.

Except that Cruz doesn’t want to let them in. He’s been consistently against illegal immigration and amnesty.
