Washington (CNN)Donald Trump will no longer speak at the annual conservative confab CPAC this weekend, he announced Friday.
Trump was scheduled to speak at the annual gathering of the who's-who of the conservative world Saturday, but said he would be campaigning, instead.
In a statement, the Trump campaign said the GOP front-runner will instead attend rallies in Kansas and Florida.
"Because of this, he will not be able to speak at CPAC as he has done for many consecutive years," the campaign said. "Mr. Trump would like to thank Matt Schlapp and all of the executives at CPAC and looks forward to returning to next year, hopefully as president of the United States."
The American Conservative Union, the conference's organizers, said it was "disappointed."
"We are very disappointed Donald Trump has decided at the last minute to drop out of CPAC," the group said. "This comes at a critical time in our movement's history. His decision sends a clear message to grassroots conservatives."
But ACU said it remains "neutral" on the presidential race.
"CPAC is the heart and soul of the conservative movement and will be, with or without Mr. Trump," ACU said. "Since we invited him several months ago—and Mr. Trump accepted our invitation and terms —we made it clear all candidates would follow the same format. And now he is backing out."

I just watched Ted Cruz deliver his speech to CPAC. I looked closely at the audience....saw very few working people, very few Blacks & Hispanics, very few “Average Joe & Jane, White Americans....all folks that Donald J. Trump brings to his rallies and the new “Trump” Republican Party.
What I did see is a ton of uppity well dressed men & women....you know...like the country club set...that looks down their noses in disgust at us “peons”!!! Methinks Mr. Trump has his finger on the pulse of our nation much more effectively, honestly, pragmatically and real world, then any of the elites at CPAC......Bottom line: great move....Donald J. Trump!!! Standing up these Republican Establishment types (CPAC has changed for the worse) was the right way to go!!!
Shame on Sean Hannity, Dana Perino, etc. of Fox News Channel for pandering to these frauds of elite “Establishment Robots”!!! Ted Cruz & Marco Rubio are going nowhere, politically.....but, Trump a man of the people is!!! My hero, Barry Goldwater is crying from on high....he would never have bad mouthed Trump or any candidate for choosing to stay focused on his or her most important campaign of their life for a bunch of elitist low life!!!

The year’s CPAC looks awful. A few good speakers on Friday, Levin, Cruz...but a mostly empty Sat with nutty Beck closing? Meh.
Go one! I admit 0 thight this a bad move until I read the cooments. Why kiss the Establishments ring in DC when you can be talking to the voters instead. It not like anyone at Cpac is voting for Trump. After all these are mostly the Never Trump people
I watched CPAC almost all day. They gave Kasich a lot of time to get his message out. I thought he would never get off. Then Michelle Malkin came out and went frothing at the mouth for about 15 minutes. Not her best outing and I really like her. I guess Luz is the only candidate besides Kasich as Amnestio and Trump are not coming.

Indeed! And now he’s going to campaign hard and lock this up with the needed delegates and 8 States of 50% or more. He just needs to stay strong on immigration and make his case with the voters because the establishments condemnation will only help.
Well that is a public threat of physical harm. Looks like all 5 voices in Beck’s head got control at the same time for about 2 minutes. Nothing more sobering than a visit from the the Secret Service.
People are being extremely irresponsible in ramping up the hate speech and egging these whackos on. Blood will be on many hands if anything happens.
