Loved your story. Thank you! What types of therapeutic nutrition were you using? How many years were you living in the cabin?

Funny about the word “BULLSXXT.” The only time I ever heard my [late] f-i-l swear was when he was talking about Clinton and he used that word. LOL ...

I proudly cast my very first vote when I was 19 for Ronald Reagan and then my second vote for him in 1984.

Kind of been down hill ever since.

You and me both

My she RIP.

Classy lady. She certainly set the benchmark for FLOTUS to follow.

Dignity. We don't use that word with the present failed tenants.

Lord Jesus, rest the soul of Thy servant Nancy with the saints.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you. People do not realize, and are not taught, what you can do that is productive when a person has Alzheimers. As soon as it was clear that he had it we went to a lawyer, made our wills, prepared a document so I could handle his financial affairs, and “Do Not Recucitate Orders” and an Attorney for health care document.

First of all he was on Aricept, and subsequently we added Respiradol when he had paranoid symptoms. So far as nutrition, first I was preparing a very healthy diet, then I was adding supplements. He had already been taking vitamins and minerals for a number of years, but I added Gingko biloba for better cerebral circulation. Trace minerals from Natures Plus(R) in addition to their Ultramins formula. Essential fatty acids from fish oil, flaxseed oil, and Lecithin. He was taking 25 to 30 items a day. I felt he would live as long as he could swallow his supplements. About 2 months before the end he started to have trouble swallowing and I would crush them and mix with yogurt or applesauce. The last month he could no longer do that either. We bought the land about 5 years before he died. We would go for visits of 4 and 5 days and work there. The rest of the time we lived in the city. Three years before he died we moved to a property he owned where the bathroom was attached to the bedroom, and it was easier to keep him from walking out after a middle of the night trip to the bathroom.

Your husband chose well! Do you have a blog or do you write for anyone online? I really enjoy reading this type of positive means to attack that which is so difficult.

She was a great lady. It’s hard to believe she’s gone. It is truly the end of an era. I hope she’s in a better place and reunited with her husband.

Your story is so inspirational. Thanks for sharing it. You remind me of my mother, who provided in-home care for her mother.

I have just found out that a friend of mine who is into printing is getting tests for early Alzheimers. I had written about 12 pages of my husbands story a few years ago. I may finish it and try to get it printed. I was hoping to get some stories from others who have lived the nightmare, but have not had time to find anyone. Anyone here want to help?
