Documents Reveal What Trump Actually Said About His University

Julianna Goldman, Laura Strickler CBS News March 7, 2016 Documents Reveal What Trump Actually Said About His University Republican groups fighting Donald Trump are trying everything to derail the front-runner, including airing ads targeting Trump University. The program sold nearly 7,000 students on learning the billionaire's real estate secrets, but the school began winding down in 2010. More than 150 former students allege it was a fraud. Three lawsuits have been filed, one $40 million case in New York brought by the state's attorney general and two class action suits in California. Trump University began in 2004 with online courses and in 2007 it started offering live events across the country as seminars in hotel ballrooms. There was a three-day, $1,500 course where students were urged to sign up for a $35,000 mentorship program. In a tweet yesterday defending the school, Trump pointed to a 98 percent satisfaction rate, but court documents show that nearly 40 percent of the students who signed up for the three-day seminar or more received a refund. Trump's critics say the next week is critical to stopping the Republican front-runner, and they're betting Trump University is their best weapon. "I could have settled it, I think, pretty easy, I don't like settling cases," Trump said on "Face the Nation." But by refusing to settle, Trump has opened the door to attacks at the peak of his presidential bid and distractions on the campaign trail -- like the 10 hours in December and January he spent in closed-door depositions for the two class-action lawsuits. Court documents reveal that attorneys for the other side zeroing in on Trump's claim, as seen in a promotional video, that he chose all the instructors.

And one is forced to wonder about the students of major universities, Ivy League and otherwise, who are now, in no uncertain terms, serfs and indentured servants because of student loans and the money spent by parents because of the college lie.

Who is “they?” Should the same “they” keep pound the sneaky shenanigans by Cruz in Iowa having to do with voter threats and lies re Carson leaving the race?

I’m still asking the same question: How many students were there? There are 5,000 people who have signed up for the class action lawsuit. This article says 7,000 students with 40% asking for a refund

At the same time, the 98 percent website has 10,000 surveys from students.

How many students are there?

Are the people who received refunds able to join in the lawsuit, or are they excluded from the lawsuit?

So, there were 7,000 total students and 150 of them say it was a fraud.

That’s just over 2%.

That would give credence to Trump’s 98% number.

But there are 5,000 people who are part of the lawsuit, not 150.

Perhaps some of the students thought that they were studying physics? Most of them seem to think that they were going to cash in on a get rich scheme.

Think about this before you persist in posting garbage like this:

"This primary is going to be over soon and we're all going to have to make a decision. No matter whether Cruz gets it or Trump, we must unite behind OUR candidate and the AMERICAN side and do all we possibly can to get him elected and send the unindicted felon and all around America-hating, liberty-hating traitor, Hillary Clinton to her well deserved next term--in jail.

I say we drop the vitriol against each other and against our leading candidates as of now. We're only serving to harden the hearts of our natural allies against us and from this point forward, the hit pieces will not change minds or votes, but will possibly feed the enemy propaganda machine."

How wonderfully “Progressive” you “Principled Conservatives” are in thinking the school should be sued to make up for the Students bad business decisions

If the students have a basis for their lawsuit, I don't care if they sue. Mr. Trump made promises to the students. These guys are saying his promises were not fulfilled.

This is exactly what I am trying to point out with Mr. Trump today. He is making promises that I believe he will not fulfill. He is selling himself as someone who "tells it like it is", but here is but one example of how he sells his product using whatever rhetoric will play to the crowd.

What did he say last week ... his position on legal immigration is "evolving"?

In the past, it is shown that he lies when he needs to make a sale. Today, why would you ever believe that he would behave differently?

"I play to people's fantasies," he writes. "People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That's why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular." Donald J. Trump The Art of the Deal

Their are 5 people named....except the lead complainant has now opted out and now there are 4.

Trump's attorneys said...wait a minute. She's the one that started the lawsuit and the star witness.

By the way, she actually made a video saying how great the seminars were....before she filed suit. Sounds like someone told her what perjury is.

“DISCLOSURE: I am not a Trump fan. I voted for Cruz in the primary. But I think Mitt is a lying scumbag and I will definitely vote Trump if he is the nominee.”

I’m with ya - on all counts! I’m amazed that Romney finally found his balls and his spine. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t have them four years ago.

"But there are 5,000 people who are part of the lawsuit, not 150."

The 5,000 may not be willing participants. They probably ignored or tossed the postcard and are not aware of what's going on.

I found out last night that I may be in a class action lawsuit because I didn't respond to the postcard.

A clue might be that Schneiderman contributed to Obama’s re-election.

I think Trump U was like any other business such as selling Avon... You get out of it what you put into it. My son was doing work for a woman who was selling her home. Her realtor took the Trump U classes. He said they were great and finally started to make money in the business with the information he learned.

Maybe they thought the courses would make them rich because Trump said the following in his commercial for Trump U:

“At Trump University, we teach success. That’s what it’s all about. Success. It’s going to happen to you.”

But there are 5,000 people who are part of the lawsuit, not 150.

The SOP for class action suit lawyers is to obtain customer registration lists to seek out maximim number of respondents to the suit. For example, I recently received a post informing me of the class action suit against Sears for a defect in one of their major kitchen appliances, a dishwasher bought 12 years or so ago. Lots of boilerplate blah, blah, blah, inviting me to join in.

They pushed that I MIGHT receive some compensatiin in the form of a 15% discount on a new Kenmore washer.

So that invite is lik getting mail from Publisher's Clearing House, one knows that it's a scam to garner subscriptions, yet enough people say "What the hey, why not... lighting does strike people."

So without seeing the actual terms described in this class action suit one can guess thar there is about the same ratio of hangers on vs actual damage claims.

Now, note that in my Sears suit it seems to me, Sears had offered to settle by offering the 15% discount plus legal fees, read huge windfall, to end the legal action. So maybe I was being solicited merely to pad the payout list of a deal already settled in the main. Scum sucking shyster lawyers in action, relying on the idds that no one will do the research to find out the lawyers record and payouts to plaintiffs. Great con game.
