MAJOR GARRETT CBS NEWS March 9, 2016 Marco Rubio's Future In The 2016 Race Looks Cloudy

Marco Rubio's presidential campaign and those close to the Florida senator are engaged in deep conversations about the future of his presidential bid.

The topic of dropping out before next Tuesday's Florida primary has been raised and was not summarily dismissed. It is an option being weighed, but it is unknown how seriously.

That it is even on the table speaks to the depth of existential angst within Rubio's camp after a night of demoralizing setbacks in Michigan, Mississippi and Idaho. Rubio did not qualify for a delegate in any of these states and registered only 9 percent in Michigan and 5 percent in Mississippi. Among the questions Rubio advisers debated somberly after Tuesday's results was what effect his poor showings would have in his home state of Florida. Another prominent question: how would a loss in Florida next Tuesday affect Rubio's long-term political future, including a possible run for governor in 2018?

Rubio collapsed. I wonder if his penis joke had anything to do with it. I don’t think most people care for that type of humor from politicians.

“Rubio collapsed.”

His balloon never inflated to begin with. Gang of Eight put a hole in it.

Rubio should have been thinking about polls not poles.

No joke, does this ego nut stay in past a Florida loss thinking he will be the nominee at a potential broker convention?

Does he not understand Romney will throw him under the Bus and steal the nomination if given the opportunity?

To think Rubio wants to be the Florida Governor since he will not be getting the Presidential nod.

Strange mind of his.

I bet he comes out even stronger saying to his donors that he can win Florida. All of it.

This can’t be true - another thread has it that some Cruz supporter started the nasty rumor.

I assume Medved would be happy to shill for Kasich if Rubio drops out. And if Kasich and Rubio both drop out, Medved can always cast a write-in for Jon Huntsman.

If Rubio stays in and gets creamed in his home state of Florida his political career is finished and his potential career as a lobbyist is severely damaged.

He will lose Florida for sure.

There is a reason he is not running for Senate in his home state and the reason is because his Gang of 8 games and stance on immigration have pissed off his constituents and he would lose if he ran again for Senate .

Many of you “Freepers” have heard me say this on numerous occasions, Rubio is nothing more than a used car salesman. I will be pleased to hear any announcement that he will be returning to that endeavor very soon. A word of warning to prospective car purchasers, “Buyer Beware”.

Joining the Gang of 8 killed Rubio as it well should have. It was a stupid thing to do. Stick a fork in him. He’s done.

I doubt Rube will. Kasich on the other hand is “excited” so we aren’t rid of him yet.

I kept thinking that he was desperate to stay in past Florida where a strong showing would improve his status in the party ... but I think you are right, the potential for a devastating outcome re his future is much more likely now than a positive outcome.
