Cruz: I'm fine with contested convention
The Hill ^ | 03-09-2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Ted Cruz says he would have no problem with a contested convention over the summer in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump suggested Wednesday morning on "Fox and Friends" that Cruz was making the statement "because he had such a bad night last night."

“Principled Conservative” Ted Cruz is fine with subverting the will of the conservative GOP base at a contested convention? Pathetic. Anybody supporting this man is culpable too, IMO. No do-overs on this one. A time for choosing indeed.

If there is a contested convention, the nominee sure as hell won’t be Cruz.

Cruz is being used by the establishment to pull delegates away from Trump.

If there is a contested convention, Romney will be the candidate. That should be obvious to everyone by now.

There’s a difference between a “contested convention” and a “brokered convention”. The latter is full on GOPe meddling - the former is pretty much normal.

Hey now- you. No thoughtful comments, just knee jerk comments based on the headline....

Peel away the preacher act, look at the record and the campaign and Cruz has always been a stalking horse for the GOPe to shore up the religious right of the party. Nothing more and nothing less. Anybody hanging with Cruz at this point - sorry but it is my heart felt opinion - knows Cruz is not genuine.

It was blatantly obvious to me from the beginning since Cruz was never like any 'Spirit filled' person I knew. When Huckabee turned away from him, I figured that it would open the eyes of many... some yes, but not enough.

I wish Trump had a slightly finer edge... but well, if Patton had a finer edge he would have gone ashore commanding the landing at Normandy and we would not have lost all those men in the hedgerows.

Events are what they are. I never would have thought we had a chance to turn the country around after the second term of Obama. We do. He is 'Patrick Henry' Trump. Pull the lever for Trump in Ohio and Florida and get this thing over.

Wasn’t he just saying the other day that there should not be a contested convention? Then again, this is a man who say or do anything to get elected.

He was against Brokered nomination, not against contested:
Brokered: being one State party chairmen (power Broker) would control and have the say for all the delegates in his State
Contested: All the delegates would have a say.

A contested convention was in the process long before Cruz and Trump entered the race, 1,237 delegates are require to win, if not process goes to contested convention. That's the rules, changing them at this stage would be wrong.

Assume Cruz beats Trump by one vote but is short of the absolute majority needed to win outright.

What should happen?
Should Trump do whatever it takes to win the nomination?
Should he immediately concede the nomination to Cruz?

After you answer that do the following:

Assume Trump wins by that one vote instead of Cruz. Now what should happen.

I listened to the Levin Cruzinfomercial for about 45 minutes last evening. No mention of Neil Bush joining the Cruz team. Still plenty of subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at Trump.

Folks the convention for the Republican Party settles what happens if one does not get enough delegates. Everyone knows that. What you don’t know is the Democrat party uses those Super-delegates you hear so much about to handle the same thing for their party. This has been going on for many years.

So theoretically, Sanders could win enough delegates but not get the nod because the Supers deal him out.

See how both parties have the power/ability to do what they want. The Repubs have a vote, if one does not get the number of delegates, then the deals start. Another guy’s delegates on the second round may change his votes to the leader or not etc etc. It really is interesting to watch when there is arguing.

Don’t worry - if Trump gets the most delegates from the first vote, on the second vote the delegates will change to Trump I have no doubt. All this hoopla is keeping the whole country interested in this election and that is what this is all about.

Is that true?
I had hoped that based on earlier comments, if it came to the last few states and he saw that by splitting the vote Trump would not reach 1237 he would suspend his campaign and ask his delegates to go for Trump, as to not let the GOP thwart the will of the voters.

If he did that he would become a conservative ‘God’. His word and his future would become golden.
Too bad he is human and ambitious.

Seems like you have a problem with reading comprehension though. He said “in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.” If neither of them have enough delegates, it’s the only course of action.

Disingenuous argument because you know the base won’t come out on top at a GOPe brokered convention. Apparently, you’re fine with that. Cruz could easily say he supports whoever gets the most delegates getting the nom. He isn’t and we all know why. Cruz is playing for the establishment now and begging for their crumbs.

I think he was always the backup for the Bush’s and Karl Rove if Marco support faded. This year we really do not have great candidates.
Trump will win but only because Clinton is openly a criminal.

Romney/Cruz 2016!

Trump or Ryan/Cruz “unity” ticket. Book it. That’s why Cruz is kissing up to the GOP.

If he was that good an actor, his attempts at humor wouldn’t fall flat every time.

The candidate with the most delegates going in should get the nomination, period. Any other course of action, especially one that seeks to lock out Trump, as Ted implies, is a complete disregard for the will of the people.

GOPe Ted strikes again.
