Trump Says Carson Would Have Major Education Role in His Administration
Education Week ^ | Daarel Burnette II

Posted on 03/11/2016 4:16:12 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said during Thursday night's GOP debate in Miami that he had spoken with former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson for more than an hour about education and that Carson would be "very involved with education, something that's an expertise of his," in a Trump administration.

He stopped short, however, of specifying exactly what role Carson would have if Trump were to be elected. Carson was expected to endorse Trump during a press conference on Friday.

Trump's comments came in response to a question about the Common Core State Standards, which Trump said he wants to get rid of, along with the U.S. Department of Education.

As far as Carson and education goes, "he has such a great handle on it," Trump said according to a Washington Post transcript. "He wants competitive schools. He wants a lot of different things that are terrific, including charter schools, by the way, that the unions are fighting like crazy. But charter schools work, and they work very well."

My impression is that Dr Carson has a real desire to fix the educational system. I know Dr Carson is the quality of individual Trump would love to have in his administration and Dr Carson can have a great positive impact for our children. Gives one hope! Real hope!

Shut down the Dept of Education, it should be a state/local issue.

That is correct.

As it is with any other politicians’ political positions.

Why would Trump want a low-energy, pathological liar anywhere near his administration?

He has his own program...

Trump has an education program? All I've heard him say is he wants to do away with the Education department and Common Core. I haven't heard him say anything about a replacement.

That’s just one of the many examples of the left moving the goal posts. As they reach one goal, they pretend that the next one was their goal all along, and to do anything less than meet it would hit women, children, and minorities the hardest.

As we already know, once whites are the minority, the goal posts will change again, probably something along the lines that whites don’t deserve the same protections as minorities were previously granted, because we were the historical “oppressors”. But the remaining middle-class whites will still be expected to foot the bill, no matter if their own families starve.

Geez, think people. Just like Sarah commented on leading the shortest tenure ever for Energy Secretary, each of the alphabet soup departments and agencies will need someone to orchestrate the shutdowns. Maybe his experience with the charter schools is what his position will be in managing the move in that direction and hand off a program that is actually working as a model to the states while the other is being shut down. It is not going to happen over night even though we all want it to.

Trump knows he cannot do it all himself and I see this as nothing more than picking his management team to hit the ground running to start the re-transformation. Is it all that difficult to comprehend?

Wouldn’t it be WONDERFUL to see teacher’s unions broken and schools running efficiently?

I remember a Chinese lady, Michelle someone, who was a major reformer in education. Hope she’s still around - she could implement a lot of her ideas under a Trump administration, working with Carson.

Carson has the health care program and clearly stated the task would be to assimilate the various ideas put forward by various congressmen, some of which are physicians.

Carson is the idea man in health care that can take point and develop resolution to the mess

With our nation having been run from DC totally since at least 1960s, the transition back to state controlled education won’t happen overnight. States have to restructure to do that. That transition would be greatly helped by someone committed to education and Ben Carson fits that description.

It will take a few years to disestablish the department and planning a year so he will have plenty of time in the position if this is really the one he gets.

Can he make it into a one office place without congress? Basically a hollow department especially if congress doesn’t play? Congress doesn’t decide how large a department is does it?

None are more blind than those who will not see. You have no more of any idea what is planned than the man in the moon. Why must some always try to project a negative before even the smallest detail is even emanated? How insightful.
