Republicans hoping to stop presidential candidate Donald Trump were quickly deploying forces in Ohio Thursday as one of their last battlefronts ahead of Tuesdays crucial cluster of winner-take-all primaries.
Some anti-Trump groups said they were rushing to air television advertisements in Ohio, where home-state Gov. John Kasich has crept into a dead heat with the billionaire businessman, after the groups poured millions into Florida, despite Trumps solid lead there.
Nationally-known Ohio conservative Ken Blackwell joined the chorus of anti-Trump voices, while Trump himself was planning weekend stops in Cleveland and Dayton.
Still, some members of the Republican establishment in Ohio, the second-biggest prize among Tuesdays nomination contests, wondered if efforts to derail Trump here were coming too late and if their preoccupation with Florida has been a waste.

Anti Trump Republicans? They have their own little fringe group now.
Of course I don’t have a vote here, but if I were Trump I would focus like a laser on Ohio. Win Ohio, and it’s over. (It’s over anyway, but no need to take your foot off the gas.)
They’re going to deploy their forces. That should be something to behold
Kasich has no chance of winning the nomination.
He has no chance of being in the lead in delegates after Ohio.
He has no chance of being anywhere near the lead at the convention.
He is a non-player. If he gets tapped to be VP it will be because Ohio is a swing state and not because he has a puny amount of delegates.
Any Ohioan voting for Kasich is wasting their vote.
There are some communities in Ohio where there are a lot of displaced Manufacturing Employees who used to vote Democrat who will cross over and vote for Trump. These groups have not been considered in Republican Primary Voter Polls.
Not PRO something....just anti-Trump.
You have to give him credit. Eight years as a managing director at Lehman brothers. He rode that baby down like the Titanic, getting $600,000 in 2008. But, as he explains, he was never in a policy position.
Hehe...first they have to get past all the slow moving traffic on I-70 and I-71.
with the way trump has pivoted the establishment looks all the more foolish now
Just watched Carson endorse Trump.
It’s a game changer in Ohio.
It drives home the point that a vote for Kasich is a wasted vote in Ohio and a wasted vote at the convention.
Right now is the time for Kasich to negotiate a position in the Trump administration.
Trump has Florida in the bag, Ohio, not at all certain but a Kasich capitulation now would be sweet.

Vote on or before March 15 (early voting until March 14)
Ken Blackwell is a good guy, but he’s an Ohio republican, and he has chits in the game with John Kasich.
He’s just being loyal. I can’t fault that.
Kasich is done, though. He can’t win the nomination, and any delegates he gains won’t make a difference at the convention. If he gets the VEEP nod at the convention it will be because he’s from Ohio, not because he has 40 or 50 delegates to trade.
Kasich will NOT be selected to be the POTUS when there are candidates hundreds and hundreds of delegates ahead of him.
So, a vote for Kasich is a wasted vote. Period.

Agreed. The ping list note was quote from the article for those who only read the pings.
Kasich should consider options, but should face the music; he will not be the nominee.
If Kasich can keep Ohio from Trump the GOPe will pay big.
That was always his only job in the campaign.
