Ted Cruz: Closet PentecostalSUPPORTERS 'LAY HANDS' ON CRUZ AT RALLY
East Orlando Post ^ | March 10, 2016 | Jacob Engels

Posted on 03/11/2016 9:59:28 AM PST by Not gonna take it anymore

While Ted Cruz proudly proclaims he is an Evangelical Christian, his campaign takes pains to hide the truth that Cruz and his pastor father, Rafael Cruz are Pentecostal Christians, a fact further hidden by having Ted and Heidi Cruz’s belong to the congregation of First Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church in Houston, as their home church. Both Cruz’s parents, his father Rafael a Cuban-born immigrant, and his mother Eleanor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in Catholic families. Both were among the millions of that left the Catholic Church since the 1960s to embrace Pentecostalism, a Christian movement estimated to make up 4.4 percent of the U.S. population, accounting for some 13 percent of evangelical churches in the United States.

Agree. I just don’t want a man in office that says all religions (and false religions) are the same and have a place in America!

We have freedom of religion in this land.
What, are you afraid of? Is Ted Cruz going to make you go to church and miss Sunday morning football?
This article is as much a stretch as declaring that Trump is like Hitler because he asked for a pledge with hand raised.

Remain sober.

See tag line.

Cruz is a evangelical Christian and there’s a lot of people out there that none of that “holy roller” stuff. :-). As the country moves further and further away from Christianity this trend will continue.

Ted Cruz is going after Donald Trump’s recent move of asking rally attendees to pledge their allegiance to him. Cruz told a crowd of 1,000 at a Kannapolis, North Carolina church on Tuesday that the move strikes him as “profoundly wrong” and is something “kings and queens demand” of their subjects.

All Trump did in an effort to "Get Out The Vote" was ask the rally attendees to pledge that they will be sure to come out to vote for him on election day. Every candidate does the same thing in one way or another.

Cruz excoriating Trump by comparing his GOTV effort to an old world hereditary lord demanding fealty of his subjects just reinforces that the Clueless Canadian Cruz is out of touch with reality.

“Exactly. Yet another thing I never thought I’d see on FR, which states that it is pro-Christian.”

Worth repeating.

Ummm.... pretty much 100% of Pentecostals are Evangelical, but only a fraction of Evangelicals are Pentcostal ... so what is the big deal?

By evangelical what people in the United States generally mean refers to those Christians who believe in the essentials of the historic Christian Faith. That would be things such as the inerrancy and authority of the Bible (which is probably the most important), Diety and virgin birth of Jesus Christ along with His death, burial and resurrection, ascension to heaven, and His return. They believe in salvation by faith, the resurrection of the Christian’s body, and the reality of Satan, angels, heaven and hell. In fact, the statement of faith at Newman Bible Academy fairly represents an evangelical view. Sometimes “evangelical” does means something different in other countries.

Now, what about Pentecostals? They also believe the same things as do evangelicals that I mentioned above, but Pentecostals place a large emphasis and focus on some things that evangelicals would either reject, or downplay. This includes the experiences of speaking in tongues, seeing visions, miracle healings, and things like this.

Yes, and at FR, of all places. Laying on of hands in prayer is a mainstream Christian practice among many denominations, but I’ve seen it compared to “snakehandling” in this thread.

I don’t care who you support, the anti-Christian rhetoric at FR is getting beyond the pale, especially considering that it’s not supposed to be allowed here AT ALL.

I am sorry you feel that way. I think you misunderstood my comments as an attack. If you watch the video https://youtu.be/kNa5w9js48s you may understand my concern.
I believe in freedom of religion and sent my sons to a Catholic school because I wanted to encourage the development of religion as a strong theme in their lives.

I have never in my life heard the purpose and the reward of being faithful to God and a particular sect being a monetary reward and the aim of believers to have the Dominion over all the people of the earth (other than perhaps Muslims re Dominion but not re earthly wealth). I was in a single word shocked. I do not suggest those people being deprived of their freedom to worship as they choose but I do question whether it is a belief system that I would want in a President of the United States and what effect it would have on the freedom of religion for other Americans if we had such a President.

Comes now the conservative who draws the moral equivalency of Christianity to Islam.

I find, as a general rule, that people that try that tact know very little about either.

Practice what you wish. That is not the issue.

The issue is Americans have a right to know and talk about it.
They will be the ones who pass judgement on Cruz and his strange
religion.

Yes, some who say that “faith is a personal thing” mean that Christians should hide it in the closet, as if Christianity doesn’t inform every aspect of a Christian’s life.

Actually, it isn’t personal if you are running for President.

What if those were Muzzies laying hands on a candidate?

So, being Christian is a bad thing now. Great.

FWIW, Donald has also had people "lay hands" on him in prayer. I don't see anything wrong with this. Do you?
