Ted Cruz: Donald Trump sees protesters as disloyal people who must be punished
Washington Times ^ | March 14, 2016 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 03/14/2016 10:13:32 AM PDT by Pinkbell

Sen. Ted Cruz said Monday that GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump views protesters as disloyal people worthy of punishment and that the best response to Mr. Trump is to defeat him at the ballot box, reiterating his own pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee in the fall.

Mr. Cruz re-upped criticism of Mr. Trump for recently having rally attendees pledge their support to him, likening it to an action kings and queens demand of their subjects.

“It’s also reflected in his treatment of protesters, where anyone who’s a protester is disloyal and must be punished,” Mr. Cruz told reporters in Illinois ahead of the March 15 primary there.

“The only pledge that I am interested in, the only hand-raising that I’m interested in is on January 20, 2017, when I hope to raise my right hand with my left hand on the Bible and pledge to each and every one of you that I will preserve, protect [and] defend the Constitution and fight for the hard-working taxpayers,” Mr. Cruz said.

“That is a question the voters are asking: At what point do we say ‘enough is enough?’ ” Mr. Cruz said. “If Donald Trump is the nominee, he is a disaster, and the answer is to beat him.”

DO YOU SO CALLED FREEPERS EVER BOTHER TO READ THE ACTUAL ARTICLE?

Pinkbell you are being deceitful by taking the article out of context.

Here is how it starts out.

"In response to recent unrest at GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s events, Sen. Ted Cruz said Monday that protesters have no right to threaten or engage in violence, but that responsibility does start at the top in every campaign. “I will say this: Protesters have no right to engage in violence,” Mr. Cruz told reporters in Illinois, also saying the protesters have no right to threaten violence or shout down other speakers."

“The First Amendment gives every one of us a right to speak, but we don’t have a right to silence others,” he said. “And to the extent these protesters are organized leftist groups, whether it’s Black Lives Matter or Bernie Sanders or George Soros, or some other moveon.org leftist group, they’re simply trying to terrorize political speech.” “That is not their right. It is wrong, and we need to stand against it,” Mr. Cruz said. “Now at the same time, it is true that [in] every campaign, responsibility starts at the top,” he said, going on to describe how he’s troubled by Mr. Trump’s demanding supporters pledge loyalty to him at recent events.

I wouldn't pledge my allegiance to anyone. If this doesn't trouble people then there is no hope for this country.

Oh yeah.

I don’t think that I’ve been that angry in a LONG time.

But right now I think I’ll just go make some dinner and try not to scream at the saucepan.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more cheerful, eh?

Ted Cruz is NOT the establishment!

Look to history to see what happened when Reagan was running and what the establishment did back then. They said all sorts of things about how they hated him, he was the worst, etc etc....the same things being said about Cruz now.

But they see Cruz as the only way to save the GOP, because they know Trump will destroy it and they can't reign him in and have no idea what direction he's going to take, if elected. Could he be fascist? Could he be a dictator? Who knows? If one studies history and the path those kinds of leaders took to get to that point, it is undeniable that it's very similar to the path Donald is on.

They still hate Cruz, but it's the devil they know, versus the devil they don't know, with Trump.

It’s hard not to get mad at some of this crap. But the more they trash Trump, the more determined I get to vote for him, and to convince others to vote for him.

Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich are all people that I did not vote for, but still respected. Until now. But I swear if any of them get the nomination, I am voting for Bernie! And if Hillary gets it, I will just sit this one out.

I most certainly have not been deceitful. As I stated earlier to another poster, The article has been edited. That was NOT in the article when I posted it. What I posted was how it started out. I have the original tab up because I never deleted it.

"So today protesters magically appear at a Cruz rally"

Not so. They have appeared at his rally before now. See how he treats them compared to how Trump does.

seems to be making the protesters sound like victims.

No, Cruz does not. Not at all. Quite the opposite. If you would read the article you linked, you would see Cruz saying this about the protesters:

"Protesters have no right to engage in violence. The First Amendment gives every one of us a right to speak, but we don’t have a right to silence others. And to the extent these protesters are organized leftist groups, whether it’s Black Lives Matter or Bernie Sanders or George Soros, or some other moveon.org leftist group, they’re simply trying to terrorize political speech. That is not their right. It is wrong, and we need to stand against it."

How you can interpret that as Cruz "making the protesters sound like victims" is beyond me. It is exactly the opposite.

"The article has been edited.

Then WHO edited it? If Washington Times did they would have said so and have shown at what time the edit was done.

What you posted as a WT article on Freerepublic appears to be a paraphrasing of some things that were said in the article.

They’re all disgusting. Not one person running, spoke up for the rule of law. Not even that egg head in the WH, who signed a law limiting protesters at secret service functions.

Donald Trump does not have time at his rally or the proximity to talk down to every single protester there. Cruz has nothing like what Trump has.

He used the term law enforcement regarding calling off his rally, but ultimately, the secret service advised him there could be people hurt.

The Washington Times added to the article. I will post text right now of the original because I still have the tab up:

Ted Cruz: Donald Trump sees protesters as disloyal people who must be punished

By David Sherfinski - The Washington Times - Monday, March 14, 2016

Cruz said.

Mr. Trump has defended the pledge as happening all in good fun and has blamed supporters of Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont for recent unrest at his events.

“So I said, ‘If you really love Trump, raise your right hand,’ and they raised their hand. I said, ‘Do you swear that you’re going to vote for Trump?’ and they [are] all laughing and having fun, and they swore, and that was the end of that, and we all had a good time,” Mr. Trump said at recent rally in North Carolina. “I said I won’t even hold you to it. You saw that. I won’t even hold you to it.”

Asked if the recent violence at Trump rallies might cause Mr. Cruz to rethink his own promise to support the eventual GOP presidential nominee, Mr. Cruz joked that he wouldn’t support Mr. Trump if the businessman went out onto Fifth Avenue and shot someone. Mr. Trump had joked that his supporters are so loyal that he could do that without losing them.

Mr. Cruz said the best response to Mr. Trump is to beat him at the ballot box and that Mr. Cruz is the candidate to do it.

“That is a question the voters are asking: At what point do we say ‘enough is enough?’ ” Mr. Cruz said. “If Donald Trump is the nominee, he is a disaster, and the answer is to beat him.”

“I know it is a shocking concept to members of the media — a shocking concept that an elected official actually does what he said,” Mr. Cruz said. “At the outset of this campaign, I committed I will support the Republican nominee, and I honor my word. And honoring your word means you actually honor your word — you do what you said you would do.”
