The icy relationship between Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and Republican leaders in Congress may be starting to thaw.
Both House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Tuesday discussed having positive phone conversations with Trump after weeks of refusing to even mention the business mogul by name.
In both cases, Trump picked up the phone first.
"Donald Trump called this morning and we had a good conversation," McConnell told reporters Tuesday. "I appreciated his call."

I happen to think that it is far from tragic for a candidate to face the people.
And Trump did? GOP-e is supporting Trump now? That's certainly news to everybody still on planet Earth.

And how could anyone deny something, or claim something from a recording they never heard? Do you deny that? Don't you find it amazing the Cruz campaign used that as a talking point, yet they themselves have no idea what is in it? Do you deny that?
Okay, let's take this further, do you know of any "off the record" chats EVER released by the press? If so, kindly point it out. Do you suppose Cruz has ever had an off the record conversation?
Okay, so let's talk about your weasel candidate now. Do you deny that he took Neil Bush on to help run his campaign finances? Do you deny that's a clear move to suck up every GOPe donor he can? Do you deny Cruz has strings attached to this reach out to the GOPe? Do you deny that Cruz said he seeks a "contested" (*cough* brokered) convention?
Do you deny he swallowed the GOPe talking points about Trump causing the violence in Chicago? Do you deny he regurgitated those talking points like a good little establishment soldier?
See, two can play this.
The only difference is what you are claiming is totally a conjecture made up by the cruz campaign to score points, i.e that Trump said something baaaaad during an off the record conversation with the NYT.
I'm NOT making up that Cruz has taken on the Bush/GOPe finance guy to his campaign. I'm not making up that he sold his principles down the river by claiming Trump caused the violence in Chicago.

There will be a time when this election is over. In anticipation of that day, we should choose our words carefully.
I don’t get the anger. Although I have noticed that the anger of supporters of the dear senator seems to feed upon itself. You should take a moment and look at one of your posts from a year ago and compare it to those you’re penning today. Do you think your comments are more persuasive? More positive? I remember you as an A list poster here and am wondering what the hell happened?
In any case, if you wish to discuss the election, you may wish to consider another scenario: that of Ted Cruz as the judas goat. The political establishment is deathly tired of the right wing. They also think strategically. What better way to wreck the right wing than to give them a candidate that will lose badly in the general election so they can say for once and for all: look....the conservatives had their chance, and they got clobbered.
2. An off the record conversation is not the province of the journalists but of the politician to control a Donald Trump simply will not release the tape. All inferences therefore should be drawn against him-this is a standard conference in the law, for example.
3. If Neil Bush, as a member of the Bush family, has access to donor or money Ted Cruz would be foolish to pass that money up. All candidates before Trump have run on this kind of money. The difference with Trump is that he has been on the other side of the equation-perhaps a more corrupt position.
4. Yes, I deny that he alleged Trump caused the violence in Chicago. He did not say that. Would you like a litany of what Trump actually said prior to Chicago?
I say again, everything in Trump's biography, THE KING OF CRONY, forces the conclusion in the absence of contrary evidence that Trump is selling out to the Republican establishment.
I've already indicated that I will support Trump should he become the nominee. I repeat this now so that there is no question of personal pique motivating my comments concerning Trump. I simply am of the conviction that Donald Trump's biography compels the conclusion that he is no conservative, rather that he is a narcissist without a coherent political philosophy, certainly not a coherent conservative philosophy.
I compare his biography to the biography of Ted Cruz and I come irresistibly to the conclusion that Ted Cruz is our beau ideal of a conservative warrior who has held true to principled conservative convictions all his life. Everything in Ted Cruz's life demonstrates high intelligence, profound conviction, high moral character. Everything in Donald Trump's life suggests profound character flaws.
It is not at all clear that Donald Trump would be a more attractive candidate in the general election than Ted Cruz. Trump's negatives are through the roof and it is mishandling of protesters, culminating in the Chicago near riots, demonstrate how vulnerable he is to a media onslaught. I am old enough to remember what they did to Barry Goldwater and I know that it takes a deft candidate with the style and art of a Ronald Reagan to finesse the media when it is in full jihad mode.
Every primary season brings out the worst of all us and this cycle seems to be even worse than usual. I hope we can repair the damage going into the general election. It looks like it we Cruz supporters such as myself who will have to swallow hard and salute and that is what I am prepared to do.
Meanwhile, I am not prepared to surrender my self-respect for comity.

No more 3 branches of govt. The Don will rule as King of America! who needs a constitution when we have Trump!!!
They would be different candidates. Trump would win by making sure Hillary's negatives are higher than his. Cruz could win by bringing out the conservatives in the swing states. Here in Virginia it would be close though and we used to be reliably conservative.
As for "mishandling", etc, Hitler obviously mishandled protesters, same with Stalin and Pol Pot. So why shouldn't Trump?
BS...We are just getting away from that with this election....
Time for Trump to cozy up to his establishment buddy Mitch McConnell. Maybe the McConnell people working in the pro-Trump PAC can arrange some meetings.
What matters to me is that he will make Hillary's negatives higher than his own in the general. He will not allow her to lie her way to the presidency. Cruz will have to do the same in order to win because she will lie about him ceaselessly (except when pretending to talk about issues).
